My problem first showed up as varying temperature in both sections of my old mid 1970’s Frigidaire model FPCI-170T-7 refrigerator, which is not listed on most appliance repair databases. This was a 2000 model so rather than just replace the defrost timer which was visibly burnt on the terminals, we just did everything. The cold control, defrost timer, thermostat, defrost heater and the compressor capacitor were all replaced. I had the same issue on my older unit and tore it apart replacing one item at a time over a three month period so on an older one i suggest do it all while it is apart. Read more

Before we replaced the board, my wife tried to replace just the element. We had one we had ordered several years ago when this same thing happened. When that didn't work we replaced the board and could see where the old board was damaged so we figured this was the solution. 1. After hearing a loud noise on the freezer side of unit about halfway up, I started investigating what it could be? My conclusion was evaporator motor or evaporator fan blade. One of the signs of this issue was a distinct change in sound when I opened the freezer door. I ordered a new motor and blade, not knowing exactly what it was. 2. FIrst, I removed the cardboard cover on the back, exposing the compressor compartment. I noticed the fan was not moving. I touched the blade and it immediately started spinning, but not very fast. The compressor was getting hot, and I think prob. overheating. The fan stopped after a few hours and then "froze" solid the next day. I put a piece of two-by-four, (2"x4") about 10-inches long on edge under the door to support the door. I removed the 3-bolts attaching the door hinge at the bottom corner. I then slid the washer onto the post and placed the bracket back in place with the 3-bolts. That did the trick. I used a 3/8-inch socket with extension and a ratchet. Read more

My 10 year old frig door was hanging down to the point it wasnt fully closing and sealing unless you picked up on it. I ordered a lower hinge bracket, upper and lower bearing, and spacer. My bracket was bent down a little due to my kids hanging on the door when looking at the bottom shelf and i discovered my bracket was held on by only two bolts when there was supposed to be three.
