This is a timer that is used on washing machines. It controls the electrical components and the length of time of the washing machine's cycles. Be sure to unplug the appliance from the electrical outlet before beginning repairs. Some people performing the replacement or repair may wish to wear work gloves to protect their hands. The replacement process only takes about ten minutes to complete from start to finish. When the timer will not advance, it is likely that the washing machine cycles will not run at all or won't run consistently. The appliance may not advance through the various cycles like the washing, rinsing, and spinning cycles and may get stuck on one of the cycles. This timer is compatible with washing machines that are manufactured by Kenmore, Gibson, Westinghouse, and Frigidaire. It is sold individually and is sourced directly from the manufacturer and a genuine OEM part.

Dennis, If it spins in an agitate cycle but not every time you probably need to replace the timer.

Power and water to the unit verified (Power verified all the way to the timer). Nothing happens when the dial is pulled out (at any point on the dial), no power, no hum, no door lock, or door lock light. I tested and replaced the door lock switch and the plastic male part on the door itself. The originals seemed fine but I had parts on hand so I swapped them out. Is it likely to be the timer? And how would I go about troubleshooting the timer? Thank you

1 Answer

Hello Heather. Yes, it could be the timer. If some cycles work fine but others do not, it is usually the timer.

Michael, With the timer advancing but nothing happening you will want to check for power to the water valve, if filling with water then check to see if there is power getting to the speed control board. If there is then this will be a faulty speed control otherwise will be the timer.

Hello Ernest, You will most likely need to pull the tech sheet from the machine to determine the cause of the issue. Many units have a control board that will hold a fault code which will point you in the right direction. If there is no electronic control board on your machine, you will need to troubleshoot the unit using the wiring diagram to pinpoint the issue. For a more detailed diagnosis, we would need to ask you to please post a new question that includes the model number from your units' I.D. tag. Thank you for your patience and understanding in this matter.

Hi, We have a Frigidaire stackable washer/dryer unit. It's about 12 years old (2003). The front main timer control knob seems to have either broken loose from the assembly and now spins freely, but when pushed in you can select the cycle as usual until you let go. Then it just does nothing until you gently pull it out which will start the cycle. The cycles seem to go through the normal process, but now the spin cycle does not kick in. Sometimes we can get the wash to drain out and go to the spin cycle, but it is hit-or-miss, Is this a whole timer assembly issue, or just the outer control knob? Thanks for any help!

1 Answer

Jef, This issue sounds like it would be the timer that is the issue if it is not going into the spin cycle or is hit and miss on the spin.

Hi, my washer stopped working midload. A complete stop, no hum or ticking of a timer advance. I noticed the door lock light would light up whenever the knob was pulled out, and tested the door. Sure enough, the door lock wasn't working. It is now replaced, and does hold the door shut whenever the knob is pulled out (and the light also stays on, as before). I also hear a hum when I pull the knob now, but the timer doesn't advance and no water starts, at any point on the dial. I spoke to a customer service person who told me that there wasn't much to these models, as there is no display. He thought it was the timer. I agree, but don't know the symptoms of a control board malfunction. Does it sound like the timer to you?

1 Answer

Kelsey, Before you replace the timer, check and make sure the faucets are open and then check to see if the hoses aren't kinked or clogged. then check or replace the fill valve 134211400. The humming noise could be due to no water to the valve or a failed valve.

The door lock light illuminates, and the door is indeed locked. The washer fills but the timer will not advance. If I manually advance the timer one click at a time, with a substantial observation period for each click advanced, it will fill and drain, but never agitate or spin. I replaced a broken shock with a new pair of shocks, and I replaced the door lock assembly. This did not fix the problem and I'm wondering if the timer assembly is possibly bad?

1 Answer

Mike, Based on the description of the problem with the unit, the timer would most likely be the cause for the unit not operating.

Ian, Unfortunately we would not be able to assist with this model as it is a Canadian model and we do not have any information that we would be able to pull on it.

I have a Frigidaire front loader model FWT645RHs0 that does not spin or agitate. The shocks and one suspension spring had broke which I replaced. When I plugged it back in it will fill with water but not agitate the tub or spin. There is a slight hum but nothing happens. The timer knob does not advance. If I rotate the control knob to a point where the drain pump turns on it will drain but the pump does not seem to turn off. Investigation: I found what looked like the ground wire for the motor off. (Connects to the bracket rather than being part of the bundle going in the motor.) I reconnected the wire but no change in behavior. The voltage on the 5 & 6 pins on the 6 pin plug are good. The voltage between the 5 pin of the 6 pin plug and the 2, 6 & 10 pins on the 10 pin plug are good. The voltage between the 5 pin of the 6 pin plug and the 1 pin on the 10 pin plug should be 0 but is 30. Is the time bad? How do I check? What are the other things I should check?

1 Answer

Hello Wnc_riverrat. If the voltage is good the timer is good. This would lead to the motor being bad and needing to be replaced.
