Questions & Answers

For Ge Refrigerator Water Filter (Part Number: OEM17364564)

1 Answer

Andrea, Other than turning off the water supply, to stop the leak, and turning off the ice maker(lever on the bottom of the side of the control head) to insure it doesn't accidentally energize and starts to operate, you wouldn't need to do anything else, and the refrigerator should work normally. You can also remove the filter, but do not install the "bypass plug", this will eliminate the water supply to the water dispenser and tank.

Hello Karla. Check for a frozen tank and make sure your water valve is good. Thanks.

LED Guy, We are not showing a HDX FMG-1 filter but your unit would use the MWF filter.

Hello Amy. Make sure the freezer is between 0° and 5°. You need to check and see if there is power going to the water valve when the icemaker cycles. If so, replace the water valve on the unit. If not, or the icemaker does not cycle, you will need to replace the icemaker on the unit. Also, check and make sure the fill tube on the unit is not frozen and clogged. If so, replace the water valve and thaw out the fill tube. You can test this with a multi-meter TJMA-DMT3. Here is a link on how to use a multi-meter. http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/oven-repair-including-ranges-cooktops/4810-how-check-continuity-ohmmeter.html

Hello Loretta, You will need to determine the cause of the dispenser actuator wire not being actuated to correct this issue. Several things can cause this such as an accumulation of ice chips in the bottom of the ice bin, the dispenser actuator wire has missed the stirrup, or the solenoid and arm assembly has frozen or failed. This is basically determined by heating the solenoid with a hair dryer for about 15 minutes to see if the problem clears. If not, check for voltage to the solenoid when it should be energized. If no voltage there, check connections at the wiring harness at the freezer door hinge. If voltage is present, replace the solenoid WR62X23154.

Becky for Model Number GE ESS25LSPSBS

Hello....I recently went to change my the refrigerator filter (was using HDX FMG-1 brand) and water would only trickle out after it was replaced...even after taking it out and trying it over. I also tried another new filter (same brand) followed by the recommended GE brand of filter with the same result. I put the old filter back in and it worked fine. Has the type of filter changed? The top looks slightly different than the one I was using that still works. Do I need to buy some sort of water filter adapter replacement so I can use these newer filters? My refrigerator is an older model, and I can't seem to find the exact filter that is still working. Also...there is a white residue that leaks down from the water dispenser when you use it....is that related to the problem somehow? The ice dispenser has worked the whole time. I'm confused. Thanks!

Becky, The manufacturer of that filter may have made a design change to it but the manufacturer recommends filter MWFP and it would be recommended to try that filter and see if it works. If not then it may be a filter head that may need replaced.
