Ryan B January 17, 2015 for Model Number ge profile fridge model 25 I replaced the smart water filter. I started on the locked arrow and noticed it was wrong. When I pulled it out it blew water all over and a black or o ring fell out. I looked and all three o rings are where they should be. I put the filter in correctly and it does not leak, but after running water the dispenser drips about about 10 times and then stops. I put the o ring in the area it fit in the top of the filter.
1 Answer Ryan, You want to make sure that you purge the water line after replacing the water filter. If you do not it can keep air trapped in the lines and cause the dripping issue. You could also install a check valve part number 8201815 to correct this also. Read More...
Thomas January 10, 2015 for Model Number Gsh25jfxnbb Hi, I replaced the water filter and it worked. After a couple of glasses of water it stopped working. I removed the filter and put the bypass plug in. It still does not work. Other factors are: water supply is fine, light works on panel. I don't think I primed the filter with water appropriately. Consequently, I believe air is in the line. I tried to purge the air for 5 minutes with bypass plug in. It still does not work. Any ideas? Thank you
1 Answer Thomas, You will want to check to see if the unit is still making ice, if there is no water in the icemaker or ice in it and no water dispensing then the issue will end up being with the water filter head which is part number WR02X45209. Read More...
Jeff December 17, 2014 Replaced the MWF filter on my GE profile refrigerator and water flow stops after filling 1-2 cups. Put the old filter back in and it works fine. Is this a bad filter?
1 Answer Hello Jeff. It sounds like the filter head is bad on the unit and will need to be replaced. This is the reason the old filter works, but new does not. Read More...
Heather December 07, 2014 for Model Number PSHS6MGZBESS My husband changed the water filter on our GE Profile refrigerator. He used the GE brand MWF filter that matched our model number and followed the instructions on GE's website. Now it makes a hammering sound and has very little flow which stops after a few minutes. He tried putting the old filter back on and it does the same thing. It was working perfectly fine prior to him changing the filter, I had gotten water just before he changed the filter and it flowed fine.
1 Answer Hello Heather, This is most likely an issue with the filter head and tube assembly WR02X45206. Read More...
Christen October 15, 2014 for Model Number GXWH20F It is impossible to get the filter cartridge off to replace the filter. I put it on by pass and and pressed the release button and used canister wrench to move it clockwise, but it won't budge. Had same problem over last year too. Why does it seal itself so tightly And how do I get it off?
1 Answer Christen, Unless the seal is just sticking to the housing would be the only reason for it to be hard to get off unless it is being overtightened. The only way to get the canister off is to use the wrench. Unfortunately we do not have any further information on this. Read More...
John C. October 05, 2014 for Model Number GE refrigide My daughter was replacing her smart water filter first time and it will not stop leaking you can drain the water and it its stops dripping for a few minutes but after a few it drips not much. She installed the old filter and it does the same thing ?
1 Answer Hello John, This sounds like there is either a seal/"O" ring missing or leaking or the assembly has developed a crack or a seal has failed. You should replace the water filter housing assembly. If you re-post with the model number from your units' I.D. tag, we would be happy to look up the parts needed for you. Read More...
Kelli September 18, 2014 for Model Number PFSS6PKWASS I have a GE refrigerator with an MWF SmartWater filter. Does it have to be replaced with the same kind of filter or can it be replaced with just an MWF, and what's the difference between the two?
1 Answer Kelli, you can use the MWF or the MWFP no your model. Unfortunately, we do not have the specs to verify the difference in the two parts. However, the manufacturer has recently discontinued MWF and the MWFP is the manufactured replacement part. Hope this helps you. Thanks. Read More...
Teresa August 23, 2014 I replaced the water filter which I have several times with no incident. This time when inserting the filter, there was a grinding, rattling noise. I took it out, filled it with water and replaced . No noise this time but now only a dribble of water comes out of the dispenser and then stops. It has been 15 minutes and no change. I reinserted the old filter which worked fine before but still only getting a dribble of water. What is the problem?
1 Answer Teresa, The most likely cause for the unit not dispensing water would be that the filter head has failed and would need to be replaced. Read More...
