The Spark Module is an OEM part for GE cooktops. Located within the cooktop's control unit, this module is responsible for generating electric sparks to ignite the burners. Consisting of electronic components and wiring, the spark module works with other systems to reliably and safely light the gas or electric burners.

Symptoms of a bad spark module include:

  • Burners not lighting or lighting intermittently
  • Repeated flashing of the burner indicator lights
  • Clicking or buzzing sounds coming from the control unit

Causes of a failed spark module can be exposure to moisture, dust or debris accumulating inside the control unit over time as well as mechanical or electrical degradation of the ignition components.

This genuine OEM GE replacement part is also compatible with some Kenmore cooktop models that use GE's control systems.

Hello Jeff. When you turn on 1 switch, all 5 should spark. If not, then make sure the wiring and igniters are good on the unit. If so, you will need to replace the spark module WB13X32509 on the unit. If the switches WB18T10338 are bad on the two that do not work, you will want to replace those as well. The should read closed for continuity when you turn the switch to light. You can test this with a multi-meter TJMA-DMT3. Here is a link on how to use a multi-meter. http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/oven-repair-including-ranges-cooktops/4810-how-check-continuity-ohmmeter.html

Dave, You can test the ignition switches for continuity if this is doing it in the off position to make sure that the switches are good. If there is continuity in the off position then they would be faulty. It is possible that you received a faulty spark module but would recommend checking switches.

Cory, You will want to check to make sure that the burner cap is on properly and check to make sure that the switches on the burner valves have continuity in the light position. If this checks ok then the spark module would be the issue.

2008 unit : having an issue where the spark ignitors are randomly clicking (intermitantely; NOT a fast click); sometimes just one burner, sometimes multiple burners, w/ no apparent pattern. The unit is not wet (cooktop not used for several days). Obviously, when we trip the circuit breaker it stops; stopping the gas flow did nothing. Otherwise, all the burners (this is a five burner unit) operate normally (they lite & operate fine), but the clicking (about every four seconds) will not stop, even when a burner is lit. I assume it has to be the spark ignitor generator module gone faulty (part #WB13T10047)?

Hello Charles. If there is no moisture in the switches, then you are correct. The spark module will need to be replaced on the unit. Thank you.

Recently had issue with GE cooktop where spark would not stop until unplugged regardless of gas knob. Purchased replacement harness for switches. Replaced, plugged in and red lockout light is not on permanently. Rotated lock out switch after removing to see if anything was loose while not connected to gas knob...and when plugged back in red lockout light is off. However when you turn lockout ON, the red light comes on and buzzer goes crazy with all knobs in off position. Very strange. Now I get the burners to light, all but one. Is the harness bad because the lockout switch is acting funny or is it the spark module bad? The only burner that won't light now is front right. It does spark when I use the other burners (and they light normally) but when I use that particular one, it will not spark or light. Any suggestions? The lockout knob/switch seems to be the issue. thanks

Hello Denise, This sounds like you have lost ground to the burner base. The wire to the ignitor should be left connected to prevent a fire issue. The burner base of each surface burner should be removed and pieces down to the chassis removed. When these pieces are reinstalled, the metal pieces should be sanded lightly to re-establish electrical contact between the parts. This will provide ground to the burner base so the ignitor will have a complete circuit and the spark will exist to ignite the gas. While in the cooktop it is not a bad idea to use a safety pin or small paper clip to clear the gas orifices since spills can clog or partially clog them over time.

Jeff, If the unit is sparking but not lighting then you will want to clean the burner head and burner cap as this would be the most likely cause for the burner to no light.

No spark from center back burner. Eliminated possibility of spark head so must be in wiring. Have already replaced harness so unlikely it is in gas valve switch unless I received a defective unit. Also, control light on all time and weak buzzer sound in background. Switch functions as designed in that locked out prevents gas flow. I am thinking I should replace the buzzer to fix the light/buzzer problem, but am perplexed as to the sparker issue.

Jim, The first thing you will want to do is make sure that the burner head and cap are clean. If they are dirty it can cause sparking problems. If the burner checks ok then check the wiring between the spark module and the igniter. Also check the igniter for cracks in the porcelain and if these check ok then the spark module would be the likely issue. Replacing the buzzer should correct the issue with the noise.

Danny, If the ground wire coming from the power cord is damaged then you would need to replace the power cord on the unit.
