Questions & Answers

For Ge Refrigerator Dispenser Switch (Part Number: OEM17065971)

Hi Ed. Inside the fountain control housing is the ice door switch part # WR23X10783. If the switch is staying in the closed position, then it will supply voltage to the control board to command the circuit selected to work. IF the dispenser solenoid is shorted and holding the chute stuck open then you need a new solenoid part # WR62X10055. Look at the sol. plunger to see if it is worn out and creating a bind while trying to go in and out. Is the control assy. part # WR55X10195 is shorted and sending the individual commands simultaniously, then replace it. Look at the circuit board itself to see if it has burnt spots opening the circuits. Thank You.

Hi Mario. If you continually have strong pressure at the open connector under the door (draining into a large pan), Then the water filter part # MWFP is not clogged. Then you have a frozen freezer door water line. You can keep the water line disconnected to drain into the pan overnight with the fountain control board light on that will generate heat to assist in thawing the waterline. Thank You.

Hello Eric, The water reservoir is probably frozen. Remove the drawer second from the bottom and place a hair dryer on the shelf blowing on the coil of water line referred to as the water tank/reservoir. Let it blow hot air on it for 10 to 15 minutes. Try the water dispense. If the water flow is restored, set the fresh food section one setting COLDER to increase air circulation. Set the freezer to one setting to one setting warmer to circulate air that is a bit warmer. This corrects 90% of the issues related to water dispense. The other 10% is normally the fault of the water valve WR57X33326 or the filter.

Water spontaneously comes out the dispenser. Can be stopped by using child lock or disconnecting molex connector above freezer door. Every once in awhile no water will come out (i.e. opposite problem). I suspect the switch but I can't get the dispenser trim off. My trim sits behind the stainless steel door skin. It doesn't physically seem possible to remove without removing the door skin. That would be a major operation. I need some ideas on how the trim can be removed to get at the switch. Thanks.

Hello Thomas. 1. Remove the bezel from the outside of the freezer door. Note: On stainless steel models, the front panel must be removed. Remove screws from top, bottom, and hinge side. Pull out on hinge side. 2. Remove the screw from the bottom of the control panel. Lift up and pull the bottom of the panel out. Disconnect the connectors, and remove the control panel. 3. Remove 4 screws and the backing panel. 4. From the back side of the panel, remove the water switch and the light socket. 5. Remove 3 screws and the duct door solenoid.

The water dispenser turns on by itself. The child lock button stops it (you can hear the child lock beep when water wants to flow). Disconnecting the power to the freezer door also stops the flow. I've seen the suggestion to replace the switch. Problem is I cannot figure out how to get the dispenser trim off. On this model fridge the plastic trim is inside the stainless steel freezer door skin. Simple physics says it won't come out from the front. But there must be some simple trick.

Thomas, Here's what we have for you : "REMOVE DISPENSER COLLAR AND CONTROLS (See Step 5B for stainless steel models) • Grasp dispenser collar on each side at the bottom and pull forward until it snaps out of the door. • Remove one screw below the dispenser control. Remove the glass control panel by pushing in and up at the bottom of the board. Unplug the three connectors. Set the controls on a padded surface to prevent scratching or damage. Step 5 a&b ON TRIMMED MODELS • Use a Phillips head screwdriver to remove handle and trim screws from all sides of the door. REMOVE STAINLESS WRAP • Use a Phillips head screwdriver to remove screws from top, bottom and hinge side of the door. • Gently, remove stainless steel wrap with handle. CAUTION: Stainless wrap can bend and crease easily! • See Step 1 for instructions to remove dispenser collar and controls." So in short, you'll need to remove the S/S door panel and or trim, then remove the "collar" and the switch assembly. Good Luck and Thanks

Hello John, From my diagram I show parts available as long as a part of the door itself isn't broken. The parts are shown on the link you had open. The parts that will probably be needed are the door recess crank WR17X10706, the recess door spring WR02X10585, and the ice dispense funnel WR17X11267. Since I can't see the unit from here I cannot tell you what else is needed, but i can tell you that as long as the ice door is staying open you should block the opening with a washcloth to prevent a major frost build-up. Any frost that may have built up already should be removed with a hot washcloth. Do not use a hair dryer as it will get hot enough to malform the plastic. This will cause you to need to replace the door assembly.

The dispencer is not working on the freezer door. I can choose Ice/Water/Crushed. When I push in the lever, the light comes on and dims out slowely. I can here the Fridge motor running, it stops when the lever is pushed in. The Ice maker is working fine, making ice. I replaced the SWITCH ( Part Number: AP3191616)and I also replaced the panel / RECS DSPLY 4BTN WH HTP (Part Number WR55X10448) as recommended. Niether of these replacements helped anything. What shall I do next?

HI Jeff. The water filter needs to bechanged every 6- mos water filter part # MWFP. When this is plugged it will not allow the water to flow and you should see a red filter change reminder light. GE Smartwater™ Replacement Water Filter - This new and improved filter replaces the metal canister design filter. It reduces more contaminants and is easier to install. This Filter fits GE, Kenmore (model prefix 363) and Hotpoint refrigerators with a round filter, usually mounted inside the refrigerator at the back of the compartment. NOTE: If you are replacing the Culligan metal canister design filter for the first time, you need to purchase a special adapter AP2615702. The adapter is not included with this part. Genuine GE part. Next possibility would be the water line frozen at the bottom of the freezer door the line goes up into the freezer door sometimes they will freeze up , the best way that I have found to defrost this , is to turn the light on in the service area, tape a paper towel over the area , unhook the hose at the bottom of the freezer door get a bucket , aim the hose into it press the water pedal, did water come into the bucket ? if so it is frozen up in the door, if not you have a bad water valve,so if you got water , just get a towel , leave the light on in the service area, leave the line unhooked, and in 24 hours you should be good to hook the line back up ,and get water, Thank you.

Hello Jeff. You either have a bad dispense board WR55X10446, (most likely), or a bad main board WR55X10942C, (which contains the power supply for the dispense board). I hope this aides in your repair. Have a great day!
