For Ge Refrigerator Dispenser Switch (Part Number: OEM17065971)

Lawrence for Model Number ge esh22xgpbb

I have no water at the fountain, however there is strong pressure at the union under the door. I have ice available and the ice maker is making ice as I speak. I tried to thaw as you recommend with the dispenser light AND I left the fridge off all night. I still have no water at the fountain. Should I be able to blow thru the door feed? I tried, it's plugged, nothing in the drain pan overnight. Been working fine, no warning. Confused...thank you! Larry

1 Answer

Hello Lawrence. Yes the hose from the bottom of the door to the top of the dispenser should not be clogged and should be clear and free. It sounds like it is frozen and needs to be thawed out. Sometimes the unit needs to be shut down 4 to 6 hours with the doors open to do this.

Came home after dinner and the floor was soaked. No idea what happened. It wasn't yellow so I knew it wasn't the dog. Cleaned it up and sat down to watch TV. Suddenly the Ice maker went off and threw Ice cubes on the floor. Didn't think about the ice maker because they bounced of the tile across the kitchen so the puddle was not near the fridge. Wiggled the dispenser and it stopped but then every 10 minutes or so it just started dispensing ice again even after I pulled out the ice maker bin. Is this just the switch GE WR23X10783 or something more within the circuit board? After pulling the switch its seems to operate okay. I put a resistance meter across it and it seems to open and close normally and yo get the definite click in and out.. I don't understand why it would cycle.

1 Answer

Hello Steve, While this can be caused by a stuck relay, it is more likely a switch. When ice is dispensed into a glass with a drink already in it, it causes the drink to splash into the control area. This causes electrical damage to switches and boards alike. I recommend to open the dispenser area and check the switches WR23X10783. If they test good, replace the control board WR55X10446.

The water dispenser in my GE refrigerator has an initial strong spurt and then has a constant very slow flow, 50 seconds to draw 16 ounces. The flow coming to the rear of the refrigerator has a very strong full flow. I did not find any frozen lines, no kinks, filter was replaced with plug and flow still slow, however, after filter is emptier and replaced flow is strong for about two seconds and the back to slow flow. Have replaced water inlet valve with no difference in flow. Finally can you tell me what controls the flow? Is there a pump or is there only water pressure in the line, any kind of adjustment to set flow?

1 Answer

Gil, The issue with the unit would be in the water filter head not allowing water to flow properly. The filter head WR02X45206 would need to be replaced.

Hello Phil, The most likely cause of the dispenser door not closing all the way is the dispenser solenoid WR62X10055. If you grasp the lower part of the dispenser interface and pull out from the bottom you can get the interface off. You can then remove 4 screws that hold the housing in place. Remove housing and solenoid is on the right side of the dispenser area.

Hello Troy, You will want to disconnect the fitting under the lower grill below the doors. When you disconnect push dispenser to see if water comes out. If it does then you will want to order a dispenser tube heater WR49X10173.

I have a refrigerator that's about 5 to 6 years old. I had the motherboard replaced once. Once the mother board was replaced the water dispenser and ice stop working. I hear the door flap open but no ice. I remember that the door had gotten wet from the ice melting when the board went bad. I just wanted to know if maybe the local technician put the wrong board in or if something on the front of the door got wet. Also the door that opens to let the cool air in from the freezer side to the refrigerator side is broken so I have to keep both sides on a low setting. Where can I get the part and what is it called?

1 Answer

Hello Joe, If the auger motor got wet it is probably frozen. Remove the ice bin and use a hair dryer on it for about 15 minutes and it should operate normally. We sell the door that allows the cold air to be shared with the fresh food side and it is called the damper assembly WR49X10091.

Hello Ed, It sounds like the water valve WR57X33326 is allowing water to continue to flow even though the unit is not calling for water. The water valve would need to be replaced. Water valve is located behind the compressor cover in the back of the unit. Turn water off, remove cover and remove valve. Disconnect valve and as you disconnect wires then place them on new valve. To release the water line you would push in on the white ring and pull out on the hose.

Hello Anthony, Pull the grill off the bottom of unit under doors. There will be a connector there. Have a towel available. Disconnect the connector and push on the dispenser lever. If water comes out then the water line in the door is frozen. If line is frozen you can install a heater kit WR49X10173 onto dispenser to keep this from happening.

Hello Korrin, You may want to check to see if your filter is in all the way. If not it could cause the dripping. You can also take the filter out and put the bypass in to see if the water flows. If it does flow then you need to make sure filter is in all the way. If filter is in all the way then you need to replace filter. If water does not flow with the bypass in you may need to replace the filter head WR17X10707.
