The freezer in my 8 year old fridge stopped freezing and it was followed a couple of days later with the refrigerator not cooling. You could hear the compressor trying to start as it had a low pitched hum. This went on continuously until the repairman arrived and diagnosed it as compressor failure based solely on the noise it was making so I authorized him to order the part. A week later my friend asked to inspect it so I turned it on at the breaker and suddenly it was working properly (though I had done a 10 minute reset before the repairman). The friend pulled it out from the wall and took the lower panel off and inspected it anyway. Nothing obvious and compressor running. 4 days later it stopped again, first the fridge followed by the freezer. Left it running and had friend look again. Compressor making same low hum and occasional vibration noise. He checked the upper panel and it was blinking 2x. He was going to check the code. He reset it and the light went out and compressor started working properly. Next day it stopped cooling and freezing so I did an hour rest and it’s been running for 2 days. Repairman left a voicemail yesterday that the special order compressor has arrived and to schedule it’s replace. What are the chances this is the inverter and not the compressor and how do you test for it?

Patricia, This 2 flashes indicate a restriction in the sealed system or a refrigerant being low. If this checks ok then the inverter would be the part to replace but still could be the compressor if the inverter does not correct the issue. This sounds likely that it would be the inverter instead of the compressor.

Joseph, With the unit cooling in one section but not another it would be recommended to check the frost pattern of the evaporator coil. If there is very little frost and the compressor is coming on, then this will be a sealed system issue and will need to have service. You would test the thermistors in the unit for a resistance of 5K ohms at room temperature but this will likely not be the issue.

Gabriel for Model Number RFG237AARS

Hello, The compressor for refrigerator Samsung RFG237AARS does not start, and the red LED on inverter board DA41-00411A flashes 5 times (low input voltage fault code). I checked that the 115V AC voltage is getting into the board, and the board generates the required internal DC voltages (5VDC, 15VDC, ~350VDC). However, there is nothing going out to the compressor motor, even though the main PCB provides 5V command to the inverter board for compressor activation. I replaced the inverter board with another board same P/N in used/unknown condition, and I am getting exactly the same behavior (red LED flashing 5 times, and compressor does not start). I did some research and found that inverter board DA41-00411A is discontinued, replaced by DA41-00614F. I don't know if I should purchase the new P/N, knowing that I got the same faulty behavior with two different boards of the original P/N. Can you help? Thank you

Gilberto, The single flash would indicate a starting failure of your compressor. Check the inverter PCB and Compressor relay connectors to make sure that there are no loose or damaged connections. If the connections are ok then the inverter board will need to be replaced and if the same issue is occurring after the inverter is replaced then the compressor will need to be changed out.

Shortly after a power failure both the bottom freezer and flex freezer temperature started to increase. It now cycles between 2Deg C and 15Deg C. Also freeze setpoint constantly flashes. The top section which is the fridge still works fine. Fridge was only 13months old when this started. I pressed Power Freeze and Power Cool to reset and even unplug for 10mins but with no success. Today I did another reset and now it comes up with error code 71 C. What do you think is the problem?

Antonio, The 71 C error code is just an indicator that the Freezer Compartment abnormal high-temperature indicator blink. This would occur with the temperature staying too high for too long of a period, like if the door was accidentally left open. It would be recommended to check the frost pattern in the freezer to ensure that you do not have an impacted coil that is completely frosted up. If this is the case then test the thermistor to make sure that it has the proper resistance. Test the defrost heater and defrost thermostat to make sure that it is good. If this checks ok then the main control board would be the issue. If there is little to no frost pattern at all but the refrigerator section is cooling then this will be a sealed system issue and will need service. If the frost pattern is good then this will most likely be a control board.

I have a RF268ABRS refrigerator. The fridge and freezer stopped cooling at all. When I run the self diagnostics it flashes F10 B only. The compressor gets warm but does not seem to run. The evaporator tubes never get ice on them. I believe the inverter board is the problem. I checked the AC voltage coming into the board and have 120 volts. after the overloads I still have 120 volts. I do not see any power going to the compressor. I checked the ohms between all three wires going to the compressor 11 ohms was what my meter read. When I check dc voltage from CN76-1 CN75-4 I show 2.2 volts CN75-3 shows 0.0 volts CN75-2 shows 5 volts. If I check CN75-3 to CN75-4 I get 0 volts. Would this be the inverter board or do I need to look at something else?

Seth, based on the information provided, either the main control DA41-00620C has failed or the thermistors are not sensing temperature properly. The main control would send 2.5VDC at CN75 pin 4, pin 3, and CN76 pin 4 when calling for cold air (using CN76 pin 1 as the DC ground). The thermistors would need to be tested for resistance and should measure 3344O at 37°F, 2997O at 40°F, 2627O at 44°F, 2309O at 48°F, and 2036O at 52°F.

My fridge varies 20 degrees from actual temp to set temp so I replaced control board thinking it would fix it. Well when I replaced the control board with a new one the led would flash 4 times on startup. I put the old control board back on and it started up no problems. So I thought it was defective and reordered a new control and had the same issue won’t start 4 flash led issue. Popped old control back in and started. Is my fridge refusing the new control boards? The part numbers on all control boards match the same so I don’t know what the issue is. Board# DA41-00614F /RF4287HARS I’m able to FF into all speeds. Technician vacuumed system and filled with required r134. No vacuum leaks. Fridge is kept outdoors 100+ degrees during day. Fridge gets down to 42 in mornings but set to 34. Thanks

Frank, the sealed system of the refrigerator can be affected by the temperatures being over 100°F as it will heat up the compressor fairly quickly, and it will affect the internal temperatures. However, if the compressor is running continuously and the REV number of your appliance is 01, the inverter power control for the compressor would be part number DA92-00215C but it would be unlikely that this would be the issue. It would be likely that the compressor operating in the higher ambient temperatures are causing it to not release the heat from the freon properly through the condenser coils. Ensuring the unit is in as much of a shaded area where it can be as cool as possible would be the first start.

I buy a Samsung 2-door no frost Ref. (Model RT22FAJBDSA/TC)... last few days we noticed that the said Ref. compressor was not running (only fan in the freezer was running), I conduct testing on compressor terminal and got a reading of 12kilo-Omhs on Common-Starting, Common-Running & Starting-Running terminals (same readings to all terminals), check also terminals to ground readings if compressor was grounded (result shows not grounded)... indication in Controller board were Main Power Board LED light blinking 10x while Inverter Board 3x consecutive... please help, thanks...

Dominic, Unfortunately, this model is an international model and we do not have any information on it to be able to determine what is going on with the unit. It sounds like, if the compressor is not coming on that the inverter board will be the issue.
