Laundri L for Model Number LAT2300AAE and LAV3600AWW

The top portion of washing machine agitator floats up and is not secured to the bottom portion. I feel I just need the rubber securing ring and the little thread-bolts not the entire assembly to secure them together again, the large pieces are in great condition, the rubber thread bolt got loose and I threw it out when I found it in my laundry weeks ago, before I noticed the problem. Is it possible to purchase just these small pieces or fix it without buying the unnecessary parts? So far I've been able to push it back down and of course the lid keeps it from escaping the washtub. I've not had a problem with clothes not getting clean or any odd noises. Am I missing something? Does anyone know a "fix" for this. Yes, this Is the 2nd model of Maytag washing machines this has happened to for me.

Laundri, In order to get the agitator top to stay in place the agitator itself would need to be replaced. There is not a rubber washer kit for this. The part number for the agitator is 22001821.

April, If the agitator bolt is continuing to back out and has to be retightened then you could put some Loctite on the threading of the bolt.

Robert, If you're going to drill out the bolt, you'll only need a 1/4 " or 3/8" drill bit, Of course you need to start with smaller bits and work your way up the the proper size bit to remove the bolt head.

Robert, you may want to try a small amount of penetrating oil or "rust buster" applied to the bolt head, let it soak a while, then use the 7/16" socket and extension. You may need to use a small block of wood, and small hammer to "tap" the socket down enough to get a proper "purchase" fit on the bolt to loosen and remove it. Otherwise you'll need to chisel or cut out the agitator cam and dogs, so you can remove the upper agitator then remove the bolt using a wrench and a pair of pliers to hold the agitator shaft in position.

Thank you for your patience and understanding in this matter.

Wendy, You will want to get some blue Loc-Tite and put on the threading of the bolt. This should keep the bolt from coming loose and causing the noise that the unit is making.

Hello James. Only option you have is to drill out the screw and hope you don't damage the shaft.

Hello Jan. The agitator is held in with a bolt. If it came loose, the cam kit 285809 will need to be replaced. You will have to remove the bolt from the top of the transmission to install the new kit.
