Questions & Answers

For Whirlpool Refrigerator Air Damper Assembly (Part Number: OEM18019827)

Ralph, Check the temperature with a thermometer and if out of normal range then check the damper to make sure it is not jammed or frozen stuck with ice. Then check when the refrigerator is running to see if the damper is receiving power to the motor to open the damper. If there is power there and it doesn't open then replace the damper, if no power then trace back with the wiring diagram to see where the pwer is lost...(control or wiring.)

Hello Antonio, This is normally caused by an air leak causing the humidity from the room temperature air to be circulated inside the unit. This humidity condenses in the damper and forms frost. Correct the air leak and the frost formation will cease. The only other things that can cause this is if the icemaker is connected to the hot water supply or if the mold heater on the icemaker is stuck in the "on" position, (or hot items being placed in the freezer).

Adam for Model Number 10657862800

My diffuser door broke and when I ordered the part the original part (w10128734) was discontinued. The substitution part (w11236848) came and looked almost exactly the same but seemed like it didnt fit. The wire harness was the same however, so I plugged it in and tapped the diffuser in place. When I plugged the fridge in 1 thermistor immediately blew up. I assumed it was the wrong part but the supplier sent me the same one again. Did I receive the wrong part or do I need to change some wiring? If it is the correct part how do I make it fit? Please help!

Marcel Bosch for Model Number Whirlpool FRSS2VAF20

Hi, My fridge Whirlpool FRSS2VAF20 is not getting cold enough. The fan is working in the freezer. After i disconnect and wait 8 hours and startup again all works. I get cold air inside the fridge but after around 5 days it stops blowing cold air where i see and know the ventilator is working in the freezer. The Air Diffuser is open but there is no cold air coming in the fridge. I changed the Thermal Cut Off Bi Metal Thermostat for a new one but with the same result. After 5 days the freezer is cold but not blowing cold air into the fridge. The fan is working normally. What could be the problem ? My first feeling is that the defrost system does not work as it must work and remove all ice from the fridge ? Hope somebody knows this problem and how to check the real problem. Thanks

Marcel, Unfortunately, we have no parts or service information for Whirlpool "export" refrigerators, But, you are on track, you most likely have a defrost issue. We don't have the technical information to test the defrost components or advise you properly. In general, if the defrost cycle does not occur in the specified amount of time, ice will develop on the evaporator and reduce or eliminate the air movement over the evaporator and the refrigerator compartment won't cool properly. when the ice is eliminated(when you remove power to the refrigerator) and the ice melts, when you reapply power the refrigerator will cool, until the evaporator is clogged with ice again. You'll need to check the defrost heater for the proper circuitry(closed circuit at room temp.), check for any loose or broken wires, then check or replace the defrost timer or control board to establish the power to the defrost heater circuit. Thanks,

Hello Joe. You will need to check the damper [WP2209751] and see if it is bad and will need to be replaced on the unit. If it is broke, it will cause the issue your having. If the damper is good, then check the fresh food cold control. Thank you.

John for Model Number KitchenAid Superba

Hi I bought a new diffuser since I could not feel any air flow from it. The freezer is nice and cold and the ice-making is fine, but the fridge was barely cool. When I took out the old diffuser I noticed that it was blocked with ice. I thought it was because it was not flowing and building up moister there. Anyway the new one also does not blow any air. What do you recommend? Should I meter if there's voltage to the connector? if So, what should I be looking for (AC, or DC voltage and how much voltage?). Thanks, John 310-872-8993

Hello John. It sounds like the duct may be blocked with ice build up. You need to remove the ice and make sure your evaporator fan is running and there is no defrost issue.

Hello Maggie. It sounds like you may have a defrost problem with the unit. Check and see if there is any frost build up on the evaporator coils in the freezer. If so, you will need to test the defrost heater and the defrost thermostat. They should read closed for continuity when cold. You can test this with a multi-meter TJMA-DMT3. I will include a link at the end to assist you how to use the multi-meter if needed. If both parts are good, you will need to replace the defrost timer. Once the problem is repaired, you will need to thaw out the ice on the coils before the unit will operate properly. http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/oven-repair-including-ranges-cooktops/4810-how-check-continuity-ohmmeter.html

Hello John. It is possible that warm air is getting into the unit and causing some icing to take place in the diffuser.

Bob G for Model Number Kenmore 106.59702990 (side by side; mfg date Jan 2000)

My diffuser needed replacement and I purchased a WP2209751. It came in a Whirlpool box but the part doesn't fit. The depth of the styro insert between refrig and freezer is different than the factory unit that I removed. Hence the 4 clips don't reach into the freezer wall to hold the unit in place. Has this part been changed and I'm screwed? Is there another part # I should order? Thanks in advance for your help.

1 Answer

Bob, You did not receive the wrong diffuser for your unit. The way that they make the diffuser there is a seal on the side that meets up with the refrigerator side liner that causes it to seem like it is off and will not clip on the freezer side. The way that you have to get this in is to push on the back part of the diffuser really hard while reaching into the freezer section and pushing the clips into place. This can be daunting when doing it but it will fit.

Hello Ken. To test the diffuser, open both doors until the unit warms up to turn on and run. Then turn the freezer all the way to the right as cold as it will go and turn the fresh food all the way to the left where it is off. Baffle door should close. Then turn the fresh food all the way to the right and the door should open. If it is good, set the control to the middle.
