The Dishwasher Food Chopper is an OEM part for Whirlpool dishwashers. It's designed to break down food particles that are washed off dishes during the cleaning cycle. This prevents large debris from clogging the dishwasher's drain and ensures that water remains clean throughout the cycle, enhancing the machine's cleaning efficiency.

A malfunctioning or worn-out food chopper can lead to several problems, such as poor cleaning results due to food particles being redeposited on dishes, or even clogs that can strain the dishwasher's pump and filters.

Symptoms of a bad Dishwasher Food Chopper include:

  • Dishes coming out with food particles still on them
  • The dishwasher making unusual noises indicating a struggle or blockage
  • Water not draining properly, suggesting a possible clog

This OEM Whirlpool part can also be used on Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore/Sears brand appliances.

Berkwood, It should not be that difficult, unless theres some sort of build up on the housing. "3. Remove the screw securing the foreign object protector to the sump base and remove the protector 4. Remove the screw securing the inlet protector to the sump base and lift the inlet protector out 9 in some cases, the opposite side of the protector is "keyed" into a "slot" opposite the mounting screw. 5. Remove the chopper assembly from the impeller shaft and lift it from the sump base. 6. The check valve, located between the wash motor and the drain can be removed with a pair of needle nose pliers." Good Luck and Thanks

Db, Yes, you can install the chopper and screen from the top. Its a tight work area, but can be done. I may be wrong, but if the chopper blade drive lug is worn that bad, I'd expect the impeller shaft to be worn as well. Thanks and Good Luck

Hello Ugo. You will need to remove the lower spray arm and the cover off the sump assembly. Once the cover is removed, you will need to remove the cover over the chopper blade. You can now access the chopper. Pull upward on the blade filter and the chopper W10083957V will lift out of the sum assembly. Reinstall in reverse order. Hope this helps.

Hi John. Check your drain hose and make sure it was installed correctly. It should enter in the side of the cabinet at the top rear corner and then have a loop clamped to the uppermost part of the inside of the cabinet. Then it should be taught into the plumbing connection under the sink. You need to make sure the hose and/or the plumbing connections are not clogged or restricted. Your drain hose may be the reason you are back filling into your sump and re clogging over and over. Is there anyone else in the home doing washes different then yourselves? I hope this helps. The chopper assembly is part # W10083957V. Thank you.
