Questions & Answers

For Whirlpool Icemaker Assembly (Part Number: OEM9548208)

Jeff

I ordered a new icemaker from you for my KSRS27IHWH00 fridge bought in 2000 because heater on original unit was bad. Have installed the new icemaker 2198597 (AP3182733). It is producing and dumping ice. However it is regularly making only 5 of the 8 cubes. The new icemaker looks pretty much like original one which was an 8 cube, except the fill cup is bigger on the new one...taller...and my black fill tube sticks down into it more. Fill tube is a good 2" long from fitting. My question is does the fill tube length and fill cup have anything to do with how icemaker senses full? If not why would new icemaker only be making 5 cubes?

1 Answer

Jeff, No the length of the fill tube or size of the fill cup should no affect the fill cycle of the ice maker as long as there isn't a tight fit between the two. You may want to trim off 1/4 or 3/8 inch off the end of the fill tube, just to be sure. Make sure you have plenty of water and pressure to the fill valve on the back of the refrigerator. Dismount the ice maker, and use a measuring cup or baby bottle to collect the water from the fill tube when you test cycle the ice maker (use a insulated jumper wire and insert the ends into the "T" and "H" openings in the ice maker control head. When the ice maker reaches the fill increment there should be 4 to 4.5 oz. of water dispensed into the cup in 7 to 10 seconds. If the fill time is correct but the water supply is low, you'll need to determine why there water isn't flowing correctly. If the fill time is less than 7 to 10 seconds, you can adjust the fill time by turning the small nylon screw on the right side of the mechanism counter clockwise to increase the fill time, one revolution at a time and no more than 3 revolutions total. After everything checks OK and proper, make sure the ice maker itself is level with a small bubble level.

A Smith for Model Number KSRS27IHWH00

Just replaced original icemaker with your part AP3182733 complete icemaker assembly. It is very similar to original but noticed the fill cup on new one is larger. The new unit is working (heater was gone on old one) but only filling 5 cubes not 8. I also notice my fill tube appears to be longer than one on video. Does length of tube and new height of fill cup have something to do with how icemaker senses when to stop filling and mine is sensing full too early? My fill tube is prob a good 2" long, original fill cup height is about 1 1/4" on sides, refridg bought in 2000.

1 Answer

A Smith, The height of the fill cup or length of the fill tube would have no bearing on the icemaker filling with water. You will want to make sure that the filter in the unit is good. If the filter has not been changed in a while then it could cause a slower fill and only allow partial water to come in. This is the most common reason for not enough water getting to the icemaker.

Moore, You will want to pull the icemaker and check the pins in the center of the large wheel to make sure that they are not broken. If broken replace the icemaker module. If they check ok then do a continuity test on the thermostat which are the 2 inner pins at the bottom with the module remove. If there is no continuity then the issue would be with the thermostat and would need to be replaced.

Dustin for Model Number 106.56713500

Hello! The other day I came home to notice there was a puddle of water on the floor in front of the freezer door. It appears the water came from melted ice from the ice maker dispenser (the tray under the dispenser was also full). The ice in the bin inside the fridge appears to have melted a bit and formed a large clump of ice, which then caused it not to dispend from the chute in cubes or crushed mode. This puddle of water has happened a few times over the last few weeks. I have not noticed a decreae in freezer or fridge temperature. Any assistance wold be greatly apprecaited! Thanks! Dustin

Hello Dustin. Check and see if the flap is broken in the dispenser. If so, you will need to replace the ice door kit 8201756 on the unit.

I ordered the replacement ice maker for Kitchenaid Refrig. and installation worked perfectly and producing ice but this is supposed to be an 8 cube icemaker and it's only making approx. 4 to 5 cubes each time. Took it off again to see if something in a bind causing it to not fill up the tray. Couldn't see anything...even loosed the screw attaching to the tray on the right side to see if it was causing it to be out of level. Can't figure the problem out. Do you have any suggestions?

1 Answer

Hello Nelline. Based on the information you provided, you will need to order and replace the water valve W10408179 on the unit.

Hello John. It can take 4 to 6 hours for the icemaker to make ice after it is installed. Also, make sure the temp in the freezer is 0 to 5°.

Ice Maker is making and ejecting ice. However, the cubes are slightly smaller than they should be AND there is ice building up on the shelf below. I have removed icicles from the bottom of the tray on which the ice maker sits as well. Most of the time I see water is leaking from the tray mounting screw on the right front of the ice maker tray. But it has leaked on the left side as well. Frequently the smaller cubes get jammed in the fingers and stalls the process. After letting it "rest" for a few minutes once the jam if removed it produces ice and icicles! The fill time is in the 7 to 8 second range that I believe is correct. Thanks

Hello Bruce, This sounds like the icemaker enamel has probably cracked. The ice mold is made of case metal and if the enamel coating on it cracks, water leaks from it. You will need to replace the icemaker assembly 2198597 for model number KSCS25INSS00.

Don, You will want to pull the icemaker out and check the fill tube to make sure that it is not frozen. If frozen they you will want to clean out the tube and replace the water valve as the valve is seeping water which comes into the tube and freezes. This issue will most likely be with the valve 2199838.

Hello Jack. You need to unplug the wiring connection from the head of the icemaker. There is a clip you press in and the wire connector pulls out of the head of the unit.
