Ped January 19, 2013 for Model Number ed22qfxhb02 bought part number 8201799 and went to replace old starter on side of compressor but there was nothing on the side of the compressor as far as a starting device. (not sure if anyone has serviced the appliance before but it has worked well since we have owned it for over 7 yrs.) it looks like capacitor is run straight to the side pins on the compressor. is this correct and should i put the kit i bought on the side of the compressor as instructed. if so where does the capacitor come into play. how would i wire it correctly?
1 Answer Hello Ped, The capacitor that is on the unit is a 3 n 1 hard start. If the compressor has stopped running with this part on it then the compressor would need to be changed. The 3 n1 hard start uses higher amps and will damage the compressor internally. This was probably put on previously due to compressor not running and would need to have compressor replaced for unit to work. The Start relay that you purchased would probably not allow the compressor to work again. Read More...
Ped January 18, 2013 for Model Number Ed22qfx I think the compressor starter is bad on my whirlpool as it will not cool and compressor doesn't run. I haven't heard clicking noise sometime described and compressor isn't hot. I was hoping someone could tell me how to check the old starter with a multimeter too see if it's bad before I buy a new one. Thanks in adavance Paul

Carmen October 21, 2012 for Model Number ED25RFXFW02 I'm replacing the start device on the compressor for my Whirlpool refrigerator and have the correct part, however, the instructions refer to a blue wire which isn't present in my refrigerator. The instructions show to connect the white wire to the jumper provided in the kit then connect that to the PTC then connect red wire to the overload. It then says to connect the blue wire from "the capacitor or use terminal cover from kit" and connect to other prong in the PTC.
1 Answer Hello Carmen, The red wire goes to the overload, (small white part that attaches to the compressor first),and the white wire goes to terminal 3on the ptc relay. The blue wire is referring to the instance where a capacitor is used. Read More...
Mike D October 08, 2012 for Model Number Whirlpool ED22PQXDN04 Are these the correct replacement parts for my Whirlpool ED22PQXDN04? I like to be certain before ordering. Thank you.
1 Answer Hello Mike. No, based on the model number you provided, 4387535 is the correct overload kit. Read More...
Marlor July 23, 2012 for Model Number Roper RS22AQXGW02 Fridge no longer cools... I checked continuity on compressor... pins to pins was 0 pins to exterior was infinity. Noticed my relay made noise when i shook it. Took it apart and had many small pieces of ceramic? fall out. Also noticed black scorching on the inside. All this leads me to believing the compressor is good but the relay is bad. Is there anything else I should check before ordering a new relay?
1 Answer Marlor, At this point, You've made the necessary checks and tests. The manufacturer has substituted the original part, so make sure you review and understand the procedure and wiring before you start the repair. Read More...
Greg C. July 18, 2012 for Model Number 10650559001 I ordered the start device kit for my fridge but I dont see where to hook up my capacitor? Do I still need it?
Boyette June 04, 2012 for Model Number amana refrigerator model scd22tbw I have a side by side amana refrigerator that sometimes the compressor run for 35 minutes then stop and it is hot when you touch. I checked the the compressor winding and its good what would be the problem?
1 Answer Hello Boyette. Based on the information you provided, it sounds like the compressor W10160407 is bad and will need to be replaced. Even though the unit is testing fine, it sounds like the compressor is building up pressure and shutting down on the unit. Read More...
Mark June 04, 2012 for Model Number ed5ftgxkq The overload/relay is burnt. I think I should replace the whole device kit. How do I know the compressor is still good? Should I hear clicking or what should I be listening for?
1 Answer Hello Mark, You can test the windings for continuity, but you can't tell if there's a mechanical issue or not without replacing the start device. First, you need to make sure that, if the three terminals are burned, that you sand them to a shiny finish. If the contacts don't make good connection, the new start device will just burn out again. Also, if there's a mechanical issue within the compressor, the new start device will burn out within a day or so. To test the windings, go from one terminal to another. Then the next two. And of course then test the last combination. Write down each reading you take them. If the windings are intact, two of the readings you took will add up to the third. Lastly, test from any of the three to ground. This should read infinity, (no continuity to ground at all). When you put the new start device on and power it up, the compressor should start right up. If it trips out on overload, there is a compressor or sealed system problem present. Read More...
Deb February 13, 2012 for Model Number whirlpool model et1mhkxmto2 From what I've researched, I need a replacement kit called "compressor starter kit. I'm handy, but know NOTHING about refrigerators. I understand there is a plastic box covering the part needing replacement, BUT - where do I locate on the refrigerator where to find this part for replacement? Thanks for your help. Deborah
1 Answer Hello Deb. The compressor is located on the back of the refrigerator, and the start device 8201799 is located on the side of the compressor. Hope this helps. Read More...
Carlonda January 02, 2012 for Model Number ED22UEXHW02 I am trying to replace the Compressor Start Relay Device. I cannot get the white wire to disconnect from the old unit. I have tried pulling with nn pliers but can't get it off. Don't want to break anything. A white jumper wire suggests it is jumping to something. I can distinguish where the female end goes but not the other end...the photo in the instrustions doesn't really help here. Any clarity offered would b appreciated.
1 Answer Hi Carlonda. The white wire disconnect has a lock tab in the center that will purposely lock into a small hole designed at the terminal. You will use a pick tool to reach inside and release this lock. The relay kit is part # 8201799. Very important to follow the directions that guide you to the proper pick of the overload. Sometimes it is the last resort and use a small pair of needle nose pliers next to the wire body and break away the old relay side so you can release the white wire tab. This is the neutral wire and it will not run without it. There is a small white Jumper wire that will extend the white wire to the proper size relay terminal. The red wire goes to the overload. The blue from the capacitor goes to one side (S) on the compressor. And the whites go to the (R) run on the compressor terminal. Thank You. Read More...
