Causes of a bad control board can include power surges, electrical shorts, water damage, or simply wear and tear over time.

Symptoms of a bad Control Board include:

  • The dishwasher not starting or responding to inputs
  • Error codes or indicator lights illuminating
  • Cycles not running or completing properly
  • Issues with water intake, draining, or heating
  • Strange noises or abnormal behavior during operation

This OEM Whirlpool part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper and some Kenmore models.

Harry W. for Model Number Maytag MDBH955AWW, serial #32619528JE

We bought our house about a year ago with this dishwasher in it. Several months ago, some of the cycles would not work, when punched up on the exterior panel. Then, it quit working entirely. I took off the back and disconnected and reconnected the plugs on the control board, along with the strip to the exterior panel. I did this twice and got it to start working. This time however, I can not get it to work at all. Nothing lights up on the exterior panel when pressed, and of course it will not start. Would this be the interior control board or the exterior control panel need to be replaced? If both need to be replaced, we will just have to get a new dishwasher. Thank you in advance for your quick response. Harry Wenner

Rex, It is not necessary to replace the keypad on the unit with the control board unless there is an issue with the keypad. They parts are sold separately and cannot be gotten as an assembly.

Cody, The lights indicated are a representation of a heater error. The issue is that the temperature does not change more than 4 degrees Celcuis after the heating starts. The things that you would want to check would be a heater terminal that is not connected, a possible main wire harness with a broken or loose wire, a bad heater, a bad heater relay on the main control board which would require a new control board. Also check the incoming temperature of the water to ensure that it is above 125 degrees Fahrenheit.

Hello Zach, I know you have probably already read this from the use and care guide, but just in case: The control touch pads can be locked to prevent unwanted use. If this feature is activated between cycles, the dishwasher cannot be operated until the controls are unlocked. If desired, the controls can be locked after a cycle or delay has started. Setting the Control Lock: 1. Press the Heated Dry pad for three seconds. 2. An indicator light next to the lock graphic will illuminate when the controls are locked. To Cancel: 1. Press the Heated Dry pad for three seconds. 2. The indicator light will go off. If this does not produce satisfactory results, there is a possibility of a stuck key on the control panel. If the light stays on all the time, the key is stuck and the control panel 6-919819 will require replacement.
