For Whirlpool Control Board (Part Number: OEM18039438)

Hello David, The polarity on the wall outlet should be checked and make sure a good earth ground is on the bottom prong. If this is good, the main control WP8546219 will have to be replaced.

Herb B for Model Number 11085866401

My Kenmore Elite dryer is blowing thermal fuses because the heating element is always on - even in air dry mode. When it first happened, I replaced the thermal fuse and cleaned out the entire vent duct. The ducting was completely clogged inside the dryer - the lint screen path through the blower. It now has the best airflow its had since it was installed! But the new fuse also blew. I shorted the fuse wires together and ran the dryer, the heating element came on and didn't turn off (the metal screen inside the tub is showing heat stains). Even when I ran the dryer in aur dry mode - no heat - the element came on. However, the element is not shorted to ground; it has 10 ohms between the leads, and is open from both leads to ground. Seeing that the element comes on in air dry mode, and is not shorted, I'm thinking the control board may have issues rather than the thermostat relays. Could this be the problem, or could something else be causing the heater to run continuously? I pulled off one lead from the heater element so we could attempt to dry clothes in air dry, without heat, until it gets fixed. The machine works normally this way - well, normally for not having a heating element...

Herb, This issue will most likely be caused by a stuck heater relay on the control board and the control board would need to be replaced.

Jack for Model Number Whirlpool duet GEW9250PW0

My whirlpool dryer will not turn on at time( most of the time!). No light or anything. I have removed and reseated all connections to the control panel and tHe control brd. I most cases when I do this it will turn right on and work fine for 1 cycle. When I try to start again right away or late I get nothing. If I repeat the process of the connectors it seems to come back to life for one cycle. It does not always work but for the most part it has been. Any ideas? O I did have access to a control brd that was supposed to be good but I am not sure. When I installed I got nothing.

Jack, You will want to check the terminal block, receptacle at the home supply and the breaker to make sure that there are loose connections. If this all checks ok then the main control board would be the issue and need to be replaced WP8546219.

Mike, You will want to make sure that there is power getting to the motor and if there is no power getting to the motor then the control board would need to be replaced.

Russell, You'll need to check the thermal fuse WP3390719 located on the blower wheel housing. If the dryer experienced an overheat situation, the fuse would "open" and the motor won't run, but the control and drum lite will operate correctly. You will also want to check and make sure the dryer drive belt is not broken or stretched and the belt switch 279782 hasn't failed, a faulty belt switch or wire can create a similar situation, programs, but won't start/run.

Troy for Model Number 110-92822100

Nothing comes-on in the front display. Power is available since the light inside the tub is on. Door switch checked-out good. I tried to conduct the diagnostic test but since there are no display...I can't proceed the test. Several times I tried to unplug the unit then plug it back-in...it works, but not all the time. I followed the procedure in checking DC output from P3 and P4.....not getting the minimum 3VDC. Should I raise the white flag and buy the pricey machine control board ? Please advice. Thanks

1 Answer

Troy, Yes if you are not getting the dc voltage to the display then the control is defective and would need to be replaced.

Mark, This would most likely be the control board rather than the control panel but depending on how bad of a surge could have damaged both.
