1 Answer Graham, With the heating element not cycling off the most likely cause would be the cycling thermostat. Read More...
1 Answer Hello LaWanda. Over time boards break down and go bad. Also, power surges can damage them. Read More...
Gary October 18, 2013 for Model Number 11085081400 The dryer was functioning normally until yesterday and the panel LED's were very dim and nothing would function other than the drum light. I checked the input power and found 138 ohms from L1 to ground. Followed this to the control board with everything disconnected and measured the 138 ohms from P1-5 to P1-2 neutral on the board. Does this indicate replacement of the board? I have not found any other malfunctions in the auxilaries.
1 Answer Hello Gary. You need to test power, not ohms. If there is 120 volts to the board and the board does not work, you will replace the board on the unit. You can test this with a multi-meter TJMA-DMT3. Here is a link on how to use a multi-meter. http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/oven-repair-including-ranges-cooktops/4810-how-check-continuity-ohmmeter.html Read More...
Amanda October 14, 2013 for Model Number Whirlpool Duet Dryer GEW9200 (about 11 years old) There are certain settings that will not work on my dryer. Just shows a line across the digital read out on the front. Also, even on the heavy duty cycle my clothes are still damp when the dryer turns off. I unplugged it over night and the controls worked properly for about a day. Now doing the same thing and still not drying properly. I had the electrical part checked out and he said all was putting out the correct voltage on the dryer. Do I need to purchase a new Control Board. If so, what is that part number? Thanks so much.
1 Answer Amanda, This issue does sound like it would be caused by a faulty control board WP8546219 which would need to be replaced. You will want to check the venting for the drying issue. Make sure that the venting is clear from the blower wheel to the outside of the home. Read More...
Jona September 28, 2013 for Model Number GEW9200LL1 My dryer was not heating up, would spin fine, but only cold air coming out. After reading through several other questions I checked the fuse, hi temp cutoff, etc, all tested fine zero ohms. The thermister tested fine in the 10k ohm range. Pulled one wire off the heater element, the wire coming from the motor had 120v on it, the other side only had ~6v. Traced this wire back up to the control board (good continuity in wire). Other side of relay had 120v on it. So Ive basically narrowed it down to the relay or possibly the whole board. For grins I smacked the relay with a pair of pliers pretty good and fired the dryer back up, amazingly I got 120v on the other side of the relay, so hooked the heater back up and it turned on. Buttoned the dryer all back up only to turn it on and cold air again. Heres the question, I dont really want to spend $230 for a control board when its a $2.80 relay that is bad. In your experience could just the relay be my problem and I can just solder a new one on there? Ive located and ordered one, but am worried that by the time I get that and solder it on, if it still doesnt work then Im out another few days with no dryer. Thanks
1 Answer Hello Jona. You will need to replace the control board on the unit. Cn not just replace the relay. Not worth causing a fire by altering the control board. Read More...
Jim September 27, 2013 for Model Number maytag MED9700SQ0 Hi, I just pulled the control board 8546219 from the dryer, looks like one of the motor relay contacts on the back of the board melted the solder from the contact, there's soot all over the back of the board. could there be a problem with the motor or it just the control board? I checked the resistance between the motor and L1 wire and it shows an open loop. Thanks, Jim
1 Answer Jim, If the wire that goes from the motor to the control board is open then the issue would be wiring. The wire should read continuity. If the wire checks ok then most likely just a bad control board. Read More...
Bob S. September 19, 2013 for Model Number GEW9200LW0 Just tried to get the dryer going with your new thermistor and thermal fuse. No luck. Could it be the control board? The lights come on the machine and the buttons cause the machine to beep and click BUT the dryer does not start up. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Bob
1 Answer Hello Bob, You should check the door switch WP8283288 first. If it tests good, check for 120Vac to the board. If the voltage is getting to the board and not out of the board, the board WP8546219 has failed. Read More...
Randy S September 16, 2013 for Model Number Whirlpool Duet GGW9250 LED control panel light out. Light inside dryer on when door opened. I was able to get the control lights to come on after pressing the start button for a few seconds and was able to run one load. Then the interface went blank and has stayed that way. Help!
1 Answer Randy, This issue sounds like it could be caused by a faulty control board. You will want to check to make sure that there is power to the control board from Connector P1 to Pin 5 and pin 2 for 120 vac. If there is 120 vac then you will need to replace the control board as being faulty. Read More...
