Hello Jeff, The control locked light is indicating that the customer option to "lock out the controls" has been initiated. This is normally caused by a stuck button/s on the control. It is very seldom caused by the control board. The lint build-up is an indication of poor air circulation. This is usually caused by a crimped or excessively long and/or complicated duct. It can also be caused by a bad blower wheel or an article of clothing or a softener sheet inside the blower wheel. The two problems are not related.

Jeremiah, The black to blue would be the main winding and if it is showing open then that would most likely be the cause of failure. You would want to replace the motor at the same time.

Steve for Model Number GEW9250PW1

The controls on our Whirlpool Duet dryer have stopped working properly. When you press the Control On button none of the lights or displays light up. If I randomly tap the Control On, Start and Cancel buttons and turn the function knob I can usually get something to light up. If I am able to get something to come up on the display and close the door the dryer will start running on it's own after several seconds with out pressing the start button. Is it more likely the control board or the control panel that is bad?

Steve, This issue would most likely be caused by a faulty user interface board that would need to be replaced. The part number would be WP8558753.

Jim for Model Number MED9800TQ0

System appears normal. Once the Hold to Start Button is pushed. You hear a click and the sensing light comes on but the unit does not start. Placed unit in diagnostic mode and all panel functions appear to be normal. Door hold switch tested OK. The moisture sensor tested OK. Manually checked the thermal fuse OK Manually checked the thermistor OK metered to 10.22 ohms. Manually checked the moisture sensor OK. Manually checked the Thermal Cut Off and High Limit Thermostat and Heater. Manually checked the Belt Switch OK. Tested Start and Run Coils on Motor Tested OK. Within Resistance specs. Ran test recommended by Tech Sheet on Electronic Control Board Tested OK. Tested P1,3 resistance across P1,4 Showed to be Open. At this point the only thing I can come up with is the control board is bad? What do you think?

Hello Jim. Yes, if all other parts listed above tested good, you will need to order and replace the control board on the unit.

Antoine, Based on the description of the problem you will want to check the harness between the main control board and display to make sure that there is not corrosion on the connectors. Also check to make sure that there is no damage to the harness. If this checks ok then most likely the control panel is faulty and would need to be replaced.
