Hello Jill. This is the only way to remove the coupler from the unit. Some of these can be very hard to get to turn loose from the shaft.

Hi. You need to replace the blender derive coupler part A# WPW10279256. This newer style Kitchen Aid blender drive coupler has left handed threads. To remove you must turn it clockwise. Thank You.
