The Ice Maker Coupler is an OEM part for Whirlpool refrigerators. It connects the ice maker drive motor to the auger shaft and gear assembly inside the ice storage bin. This allows rotational force to be transferred between components, ensuring efficient ice harvesting and delivery.

Symptoms of a bad ice maker coupler include:

  • Slow or inconsistent dispensing of ice
  • Improper filling of the storage bin
  • Ice that is jammed or dispensed in clumps

Causes can involve normal wear and tear over time that leads to slippage between connected parts. Cracks or fractures in the coupler housing also inhibit smooth transmission of motor power throughout ice vending operations.

This genuine Whirlpool OEM replacement part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore models.

Hello Derrik, thank you for contacting AppliancePartsPros.com #16 in the Motor and Ice Container Parts diagram for the model you listed is jumper wire W11684619, if you are referring to a piece that is built onto the auger motor W11202789 then the motor would need to be replaced. If you are referring to the diagram that is shown with WP2220458 WP2220458, that diagram is not for the model you have listed, any parts other than those listed under you would be part of the ice container assembly W11244434 and are only serviceable by replacing the ice container assembly.

Hi, I watched your video on replacing the refrigerator coupling part. I have a spring also, but it falls totally into the shaft, it does not stick out to give spring action. Am I missing another part. Also the top of the coupling detaches very easily. This hasn't worked in a long time, and I was just now thinking to try and fix it myself. I vaguely remember a white plastic piece also, and it is shown in your picture with the coupling. Is that what is missing?

1 Answer

Britta, There should be a shaft pin that sticks into the spring and pushes it up. The part number for the shaft pin is 2198666 but has been discontinued with no suitable replacement available.

Micheal, You will want to pull the coupling off the lower part where the motor would be. In most cases this will be frozen in a down position and will not engage the upper coupler properly. The upper coupler would have to be replaced with the ice bin as it is not a separate part.

Joellyn for Model Number Kenmore Elite 10650799000

Our ice maker was not pushing ice through the door. My husband realized that a part had broken, so we replaced it. The coupling on the stationary door unit had broken, so we bought replacement part AP3136992. First off, how exactly does it attach to the shaft? Does it simply sit on top? We replaced the coupling by placing it on the shaft and reassembled the unit. Now, the bottom coupling spins when we push the button on the door, but it doesn't seem to connect to the top coupling (on the bottom of the ice container). Do you have any troubleshooting ideas or recommendations? Thank you!

Joellyn, What you will want to make sure of is to make sure that the spring is in place in the shaft. If the spring is not in place then the coupling will not push up and make contact.
