The Auger Motor is an OEM part for Whirlpool refrigerators. This motor powers the auger mechanism in the ice maker, which is responsible for dispensing ice through the door. The auger motor turns the auger blade, pushing ice from the bin through the chute to the dispenser.

Common causes of a bad auger motor include wear and tear from regular use, electrical failures, or damage from ice jams. A malfunctioning auger motor can lead to issues with ice dispensing and may prevent ice from being dispensed altogether.

Symptoms of a bad auger motor include:

  • Ice not dispensing when the lever or button is pressed
  • Unusual noises or grinding sounds during ice dispensing
  • The auger not turning or moving intermittently
  • No ice being pushed through the chute

This OEM part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and some Kenmore models.

Curt for Model Number WSF26C2EXF01

The fridge ice dispenser auger motor would not work but ice maker was making normally. Ordered new auger motor tried to install when it came in would not fit wrong motor. when i reinstalled old auger motor it started working again dispensing ice. Now the ice maker no longer makes ice. Could it be ice maker quit working, was something left out, Does auger motor wiring have anything to do with icemaker? Kind of at a loss at this point. need help thank you in advance. Mod# WSF26C2EXFO1 Ser# HR32511312

1 Answer

Curt, The wiring of the auger motor would have no effect on the operation of the icemaker. Check to make sure that the icemaker is not frozen up where it cannot dump the ice. Also, put the unit into the service diagnostics and see if the receiver and emitter board are working.

Hello John, no trick needed, with those screws out the motor should just pull out, there is a chance there may be ice below the motor holding it in, also be careful with the wires that connect to the motor, they are part of the door assembly.

Shannon for Model Number GSC25C4EYY03

Ice dispenser not working on a Whirlpool side by side refrigerator model GSC25C4EYY03 . The ice maker makes ice and drops it into the bin and my ice chute’s external door opens and closes but it will not dispense (drop) ice out of the chute. I have replaced the auger motor but I don’t hear or see it engage the coupling (ap6006687) I noticed that the plastic around the coupling and ice chute is broken. Will replacement of the chute (ap6880664), drive shaft seal (ap6006175), and seal (ap6018839) fix the problem or are there other things I should be looking at? Thank you

Shannon, replacing the chute will ensure that it doesn't affect the stability of the auger shaft, however, it would not stop the motor from trying to operate. It would be recommended that the wires to the auger are inspected for corrosion as this can prevent voltage from getting to the motor. The first thing to check would be testing the ice dispenser paddle WPW10370594 for continuity when pressed. If there is not continuity, it would need to be replaced. If there is, the next step would be inspecting the wires at the door hinge for a broken section then testing the main control W11088499. Using a meter at the connection P3 while the dispenser paddle is pressed, there should be 140VDC when testing from the grey wire at pin 8 to the blue wire at pin 7. If there is but the voltage does not reach the auger motor, there is a broken wire between the control and the motor. If there is not voltage but the water dispenser works properly, the failure would likely be in the main control.

Ray, According to the wiring diagram, there will be 2 wires going to the ice dispenser motor, a blue and a gray/orange stripe. The Gray with orange stripe will go to pin number 1 and the blue will go to pin number 7.

Hello PG, yes, the ice auger motor is bad (weak), part WP2323603. it is accessed by removing the ice bin then the top ice bin mounting plate, it sits down in the well in the freezer door liner.

Lahre, the black washer goes just above the motor, right where the shaft goes into the motor, it is there to keep water from dripping down into the motor shaft area.

Sr for Model Number GSC25C6EYB01

As I noted in my response to an earlier answer, I found the problem with the ice auger on my GSC25C6EYB01. the wires in one of the wiring harness coming out of the fridge were broken right at the point where they bend as the door opens and closes. I found the breaks due to SPARKS coming out!! After the sparks tipped me off, I removed the black plastic mesh sheathe around the wires to find 4 of the 6 completely broken. What a design defect and fire hazard!! While Whirlpool should really fix this (the unit is less than 6 years old), they probably won't. So question is: can I purchase a new wiring harness and take the door apart to install it, or is the door essentially sealed up during manufacturing such that the wiring harness can only be replace by breaking the door open?

1 Answer

SR, this door has all the wiring and tubing foamed inside the door and cannot be replaced, you will have to replace the freezer door.

SR, you should be reading 120 volts at the Blue and Grey with orange tracer wires coming out of the door hinge, you may have a bad wire connection if you are only getting 6 volts.
