The Lower Bake Element is an OEM part for Whirlpool ovens. It is positioned at the bottom of the oven and is primarily responsible for producing the heat required for baking. By converting electrical energy into heat, this element ensures consistent and even cooking temperatures, crucial for achieving perfect baking results.

Symptoms of a bad Lower Bake Element include:

  • Lack of heat in the oven, leading to undercooked food,
  • Uneven baking with some parts of the food less cooked than others,
  • Visible damage or breakage in the element itself,
  • No glow from the element when the oven is turned on.

Causes of bake element failure typically involve burnout from continual use, electrical issues such as faulty wiring or connections, or physical damage.

This OEM part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore models.

Questions & Answers

For Whirlpool Lower Bake Element (Part Number: OEM18033975)

Baffled Baker, You will want to check the oven sensor to ensure that it is good. You would want to do a resistance check on the sensor and at room temperature of 77 degrees should read 1090 ohms. If not the sensor would need to be replaced.

Diane for Model Number JDR8895AAS

Hi. the lower element, the bake element, in the lower oven of my range went out...I think. It preheated to cook on a convection setting, and I heard the signal that it was ready. When I went back into the kitchen, I noticed a very bright white light in the oven (the oven light was not on) and noticed it was coming for the very center of the element and the rest of the element was dark. Based on what I've told you, does it sound like I need to replace any other part other than number 74004107? ~ thank you!

Diane, It does sound like the lower bake element is bad and needs to be replaced. There should not be any other parts needed.

Frustrated baker, Yes, based on the information it does sound like the relay is faulty on the control board. To get a good check go to the clock assembly and test from L1 to broil with unit set for broil. If you do not have 240 vac then the clock is bad and would need to replace the clock.

Mad Baker for Model Number MER6755AAB

I preheated my lower oven to 490 last nite..once ready, I inserted 2 loaves of dough and threw one cup of water onto floor of oven to generate the steam needed for baking..(have done this for years).. 20 minutes later I opened the oven to find the oven not very hot and the dough barely cooking.... I soon determined that the lower heating element is not heating up...but the oven is getting some level of heat (I assume from top element)...could the water I throw in have damaged the heating element? Also, it was my impression that the top element in each of the 2 ovens is for broiling and the bottom one is for baking...if correct, why does the top one heat up when I am baking??

Hello Mad Baker. You will need to test the element in the unit. It should read closed for continuity. If the element is good, you will need to order and replace the control board in the unit. The water could cause the issue and it is not recommended by the manufacture to cook like this. You can test this with a multi-meter TJMA-DMT3. Here is a link on how to use a multi-meter. http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/oven-repair-including-ranges-cooktops/4810-how-check-continuity-ohmmeter.html

Hello, I really hate to be the bearer of bad news but if you only see one wire, you're going to have to remove the back panel to get the one that got away. You don't have to remove it completely, but you have to remove enough screws to get to the back side of the bake element. Be sure to discontinue power to the unit before removing the back and wear gloves and sleeves to avoid getting cut!

Hello Annette. Yes, you will disconnect the power and remove the screws securing the old element. Pull the element out and remove the wires from it. Now install the new element WP7406P428-60 in reverse order. Hope this helps.

Gary, A "high limit" is an overheat safety device that "opens" and eliminates power to one side of the heater device, so it won't heat. Based on your post, if the only element you're having an issue with is the lower bake element, you will need to check for a broken, damaged,or loose wire to the element, or You'd have a faulty relay on the control assembly W10769079. Good Luck and Thanks

Hello Larry. You will need to test the thermostat switch WP74004530 located on the back of the unit. It should read closed for continuity. If it checks good, you will need to test and see if the clock is sending power to the element when in bake. If not, you will need to replace the clock assembly 12001661. You can test this with a multi-meter TJMA-DMT3. Here is a link on how to use a multi-meter. Hope this helps. http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/oven-repair-including-ranges-cooktops/4810-how-check-continuity-ohmmeter.html
