Part Number: OEM18032481
Manufacturer Part Number: WP74003019

This OEM Replacement Part is a bake element designed for Whirlpool electric ovens. It measures approximately 19 1/4 inches wide and 15 1/2 inches deep. The element extends about 3 inches past the bracket to the terminals. The element, positioned at the bottom of the oven cavity, supplies heat for baking. It features male spade connectors with push-on wire terminals. If your oven experiences uneven heating, lack of heat, or minimal heat during baking, replacing this part may be necessary.

Ensure the range is unplugged or the house circuit breaker for the range is shut off before installation. The element provides 2100 watts on 208 volts and 2800 watts on 240 volts. Removal involves unscrewing Phillips screws above the element brackets and detaching the wire harness without losing wires. Inspecting the wire terminals for any signs of arcing or burning during removal is recommended.

For Whirlpool Oven Bake Element (Part Number: OEM18032481)

Dick B. for Model Number Maytag CRE9800ACE

When "Oven Temp" selected and set, the "Bake" light illuminates and after a couple of seconds, the "On" light illuminates. Neither the top nor the bottom elements in the oven heat up, and no "clicking" sound is heard. For "Broil", the "Hi" light illuminates, the "clicking" sound is heard, and the top element heats rapidly. Is this a switch issue because the "clicking" sound is not heard? If it is, what is the part number and procedure for repair? Thanks!

1 Answer

Dick, You most likely have a faulty relay on the ERC 7601P200-60 based on your post description (element not hot, and no clicking noise). You do want to check the heating element for a "closed" circuit with a multimeter, and check the yellow wire from the ERC down to the bake element for damage.

Hello Annie, It would be necessary to install new wire terminals TJMA02875-1 to get a safe connection and then you can easily install the correct element for your model. Please provide your model number so we can determine which element is right for your oven. Thanks!

Hello Sherry, The error codes F-2 and F-3 are pointing to the temperature sensor 12001656 and control panel 12001603. The F-2 is a runaway temperature and the F-3 is an open temperature sensor. The F-7 is a bad (shorted) function key on the control panel. If you would like some illustrated instruction on this unit, post an e-mail address an we can send it to you. It cannot be posted in this format. The control panel 12001603 is discontinued and there is no satisfactory substitution listed.

Nicole for Model Number Maytag CRE9600ACW

When my baking element shorted, the connector at the end of the red wire exploded. It also burnt the insulation around the end of that side of the baking element. I want to replace the element, but I also want to replace the wire, but for that I need to know what kind of wire to get, and I also need the two ends. One end clips on to the element and the other just attaches to the same power screw as everything else. I only need about 6-8 inches of wire, and one of each end. Does this site carry those parts? How much insulation loss is critical?

1 Answer

Hello Nicole! The insulation loss should not be enough to hurt anything, unless about a 1/3rd of it is gone. Unfortunately, the wiring needed is the wiring harness 5170P187-60 which has been discontinued from the manufacture and is no longer available. Sorry about that!

Linda, The bake elements are suseptible, to grease platter and spill overs, and that is the most likely situation in your case, sometimes it takes quite a while to develop and build up, enough to damage the element. As long as the insulation is discolored and not singed, you'll be fine. Discoloration is a normal byproduct of heat from the oven and heat from the light bulb. Thanks and Good Luck

Bill, Do the cooktop burners work correctly, and how about the broil element ? That would help confirm, we have proper voltage to the range, then we'd need to check for loose wiring to the bake element, or a damaged element WP74003019. Thanks and Good Luck

Hi Bill. Remove all power. Remove the door and all oven racks. remove the bake element mount screws. Pull the unit out. Remove the back. Remove the wires on the bad element. Insert the new one from the front and mount correctly. then go to the back side and insure tight connections on the element. Also ---- Then tuck in all insulation surrounding the back side of the element to insure the heat will not escape the oven cavity and thus burning wires in the future. This is the total difference in doing a professional replacement or just doing a quick job from the front. The element is part # WP74003019. Thank you.

Thanks for the informative response. The broiler does work fine by itself, so I am thinking it is not a terminal block problem. At any rate, how do I access the terminal block on this model? I checked the element and it is not internally shorted to its metal housing in a DC resistance test. At this point the problem appears to be an intermittent short in the bake element or a problem with the clock/controller. If it's the clock/controller, it will be new oven time, as that is a very expensive part (over $250).

1 Answer

Hello Steve. The plug for the stove connects to the terminal block. If you trace the cord, you will find the terminal block. It is usually behind a metal plate on the back of the unit. If it is good, you will need to replace the clock assembly 12001603. Hope this helps.

Hi Steve. The ohms for the bake element is supposed to be 20 ohms +/- 10 %. Ohm itself against the side of the element terminal to see if the element is grounded to itself. Is the terminal block wires cracked and partially shorting/ Is the clock assy. bake relay stuck on and shorted drawing too many amps tripping the breaker? Does the broil work and not the bake? You may need the clock part # 12001603. Thank you.
