Bill July 12, 2014 for Model Number ED5VHEXVB03 Whirlpool Refrigerator: I have just had a water softener system with a reverse osmosis system in my house. The reverse osmosis is hooked up to my refrigerator. Do I need a dummy plug, or can I just remove the water filter?
1 Answer Bill, the manufacturer does not offer a bypass. You'll simply remove the filter and replace the cap. Thanks! Read More...
Tony July 08, 2014 for Model Number pur 4396841 I just changed my filter. Why does the water now taste awful.
1 Answer Tony, you should at least run one gallon through the water dispenser once you replace your water filter. Doing this will purge the system from air and allow the water to wash away the sediments from the filter. Thanks! Read More...
Jdhomeguy June 24, 2014 I installed a new Whirlpool 4396841 filter but the water pressure is incredibly low now. Is there something wrong with the filter or is it installed wrong?
1 Answer Hello. Before you do any troubleshooting, you would want to purge the system from any air. If you haven't done this, you would want to run a gallon through the water dispenser. If you've already done this, then you will want to look at the water valve connection. They usually have a screen, if this screen gets clogged up enough it could lower your water pressure. Thanks! Joanna May 31, 2014 I am trying to replace the water filter in my whirlpool refrigerator....I have changed it out before, but when I push on the button to release the old filter it isn't popping out like it should.
1 Answer Joanna, With this type of filter you have to push really hard sometimes to get it to release. While pushing you will want to pull out at the same time. It may just be stuck in position. Read More...
Maurizio May 29, 2014 for Model Number Kenmore Elite 106.56713500 My water dispenser has always worked slowly even after changing water filters. However, we do use a Reverse Osmosis Filter system with a typical Water Storage Tank. We installed a extra line from the Water Storage Tank to send filtered water to the refrigerator. Any advice to speed up the water from the dispenser? Thank you, Maurizio
1 Answer Maurizio, The recommendation is that with a reverse osmosis system hooked up to the refrigerator that you would want to remove the water filter. By having the filter in it is doing nothing for the unit except causing the water pressure to become lower. The osmosis system is cleaning the water therefore the filter on the refrigerator is not doing anything as the water is already filtered. Read More...
Annette May 26, 2014 for Model Number Id5hhexw500 I have replaced my water filterv4396508 several times with an aqua fresh wf285. Each time removal is extremely difficult ( much more than a little tug) and we are using pliers to do the work. This time we are unable to get the new filter to turn and lock into place. I have tried 2 different new ones. Suggestions? please help. Thanks
1 Answer Annette, With the filter not wanting to turn into the housing it sounds like the housing may be damaged inside and need to be replaced. The part number is WP2186443. Read More...
Rob M. May 15, 2014 for Model Number Kenmore 51569101 I have a 2001 side fridge and I'm looking for a water replacement? Can you help? Thanks, Rob
Mike C May 11, 2014 for Model Number MSD2572VEWOO My water dispenser on my fridge stopped working. Was overdue for a filter, so I popped a new one in(4396841) . Still didn't work; I tried sliding the filter in and out of the bottom of the filter housing to see if it was seating properly. (usually I can hear the water "rushing" when I insert a new filter). When I didn't "seat" the filter all the way into the hosing, the water dispense would work. If I pushed the water filter all the way in until it clicked, the water did not work. Is there some kind of safety switch inside the housing that prevents the water from working when changing a filter that could be faulty? Do I need a filter housing or a water inlet switch?
1 Answer Mike, This issue does sound like it could be caused by a faulty filter housing if the water is working when the filter is out but not when fully seated. Read More...
John April 26, 2014 for Model Number MAYTAG Refridgerator Model MSF25C2EXW00 This maytag fridge is 14 months old and we just changed the water filter (second time). I pulled the old filter out and in went the new one. However, the old filter seems not be any heavier than the new. How can I tell if the filter that was in there for six months was functioning properly ? If I dissect it what should I see to tell me what ? Also, does the filter come with a tag that I have to stick on the label to tell me when to make the next change ? Thanks for the help John
1 Answer John, No the filter does not come with a sticker letting you know when to change it. If the filter felt the exact same weight as the new one then most likely it was not fully seated in the filter housing. When you install the filter and it is pushed all the way in you should hear a rushing water sound. When you install the filter you will want to purge the water line with 3 gallons of water. This has 2 purposes, 1 to clear out all the loose particles in the new filter and 2nd to get rid of the air in the lines from the new filter. If you purge the lines and no air was associated with it then the filter is not in all the way. Read More...
Brenda April 23, 2014 for Model Number gs2shaxsq00 I just bought a house with this model of Whirlpool gold refrigerator in it. It had no filter in it so we bought one but there is no cap that attaches to it. Do I need the cap for the filter to work and is that why my ice maker doesnt work?
1 Answer Hello Brenda, The filter cap is not necessary for the filter to work. It is decorative only. The water filter has nothing to do with the icemaker operation. The icemaker or the water valve are the most likely problems with it as long as the freezer is dropping below 20°F. If the icemaker quit with ice in it the problem is most likely with the icemaker. If the icemaker is empty, the water valve is the prime suspect. This is just a basic observation but normally holds true. Read More...
