Brenda for Model Number gs2shaxsq00 I just bought a house with this model of Whirlpool gold refrigerator in it. It had no filter in it so we bought one but there is no cap that attaches to it. Do I need the cap for the filter to work and is that why my ice maker doesnt work?
Answer Hello Brenda, The filter cap is not necessary for the filter to work. It is decorative only. The water filter has nothing to do with the icemaker operation. The icemaker or the water valve are the most likely problems with it as long as the freezer is dropping below 20°F. If the icemaker quit with ice in it the problem is most likely with the icemaker.
