John for Model Number MAYTAG Refridgerator Model MSF25C2EXW00 This maytag fridge is 14 months old and we just changed the water filter (second time). I pulled the old filter out and in went the new one. However, the old filter seems not be any heavier than the new. How can I tell if the filter that was in there for six months was functioning properly ? If I dissect it what should I see to tell me what ? Also, does the filter come with a tag that I have to stick on the label to tell me when to make the next change ? Thanks for the help John
Answer John, No the filter does not come with a sticker letting you know when to change it. If the filter felt the exact same weight as the new one then most likely it was not fully seated in the filter housing. When you install the filter and it is pushed all the way in you should hear a rushing water sound. When you install the filter you will want to purge the water line with 3 gallons of water. This has 2 purposes, 1 to clear out all the loose particles in the new filter and 2nd to get rid of the air in the lines from the new filter. If you purge the lines and no air was associated with it then the filter is not in all the way. Read More... Answered by AppliancePartsPros.com | Tuesday, April 29, 2014
