The Heating Element Connecting Wire is an OEM part for Whirlpool dryers, designed to provide a secure electrical connection to the dryer's heating element. This critical component ensures that the heating element receives the power it needs to generate heat for drying clothes.

Causes of a bad heating element connecting wire can include overheating, physical damage, or wear and tear over time. These issues can lead to a loss of connectivity, resulting in the heating element failing to heat up.

Symptoms of a bad Heating Element Connecting Wire include:

  • The dryer not heating up despite having power
  • Intermittent heating, suggesting a loose or faulty connection
  • Unusual smells or signs of burning, indicating overheating or damage to the wire

This OEM Whirlpool part can also be used on Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore/Sears brand appliances.

Hollie, The black wire will go in between the thermal cutoff and the high limit thermostat. The R/W wire will go from the high limit thermostat to one side of the heater and the red wire will go to the other side of the heater.

Jenny K. for Model Number LEN2000PW1

I have reviewed your tutorials on repairing the heating element and the thermostat, as I compared the connections I noticed that my dryer is missing one of the wires connecting at the bottom side of the thermostat on the back side, the front connection and the one above the thermostat were in place. The wire is Completly missing, I cannot find where it has ever been there at all... I have read & watched nearly all the information you provide and it seems it's a necessary component, however mine appears as thou it never had one. Is this a problem? Can I proceed with repairing the dryer without it? Or will I need to find a way to install the missing wire? Thank you for your help, Jen

Rich, Presumably you replaced the hi limit thermostat WP3977767 in which case the extended "tab" on the new thermostat attaches to one of the element terminals, the red wire from the motor attaches to the other element terminal and the remaining red wire will attach to the terminal on the new thermostat

Bem for Model Number 110.96585210

I have an old Kenmore dryer - model # 110.96585210. It runs, but no longer heats up. I've been troubleshooing online, and took the back panel off. One obvious problem is one large red wire the leads to the heating element is fried and broken. I think that is part # 279457. There are 2 red wires, one connects to the timer, and I believe that is our wire that has fried. My question is, if I replace that wire, do you think that's the end of my problem or could the heating element and/or timer be part of the problem too?

Hi Tara. Yes, if the wire harness has a round clip that can be removed in order to access the complete wire harness. When the vent system is kinked or clogged or if the outside vent hood cap id not allowing the vent door to open and close on its own, it will allow the heating element to overheat, (expand) and eventually short out. Or if the connection is loose, it will burn terminals. Wire kit part # 279457. Element part # WP3387747. Thank You.

Jim, Yes the connecting wire should work, if I understand your question properly. You may want to order two(2) to be safe, and make sure all the connections are proper and tightt. Good Luck and Thanks

Hello Lue. No, there is no diagram, but the large terminal on the wiring harness goes to the heater, then you will have 2 jumpers. The jumper 279457 with the large terminal goes from the heater to the thermostat, and then the other jumper goes from the thermostat to the high limit. Then the wire at the top of the wiring harness goes to the other end of the high limit. Hope this helps.
