The Ice Maker is an OEM part for Whirlpool refrigerators. It automates the ice production within the freezer, providing a steady and reliable supply of ice cubes.

Causes of a bad Ice Maker can include malfunctioning water valves, clogged filter systems, or issues with the thermostat that affect ice production. Additionally, mechanical failures in the ice ejector arms or the heating mechanism that releases the ice can prevent proper functioning.

Symptoms of a bad Ice Maker include:

  • No ice production or very slow ice production
  • Ice cubes that are smaller or larger than normal
  • Ice that tastes odd or smells bad
  • Loud noises during the ice-making process

This OEM part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore models.

Sara, the ice maker WPW10300022 would need to be tested for 120VAC from the black wire to the white wire using a multimeter. If there is voltage present, the ice maker has failed and would need to be replaced.

Whirlpool, There is a tech sheet under the unit that you will want to take out and put the unit into a service diagnostic mode. In the service mode you can check to see if the icemaker will cycle and fill up with water. If it will then the issue will be either the emitter or receiver board that is faulty. If it will not then it will most likely be a faulty icemaker.

Jj for Model Number MSS26C6MFW01

I have a Maytag MSS26C6MFW01. A few weeks ago the ice maker started working sporadically. I started with the easiest possibility and replaced the ice maker. That did not solve the problem. A Q&A here made me check the wiring under the door hinge and sure enough there are 3 (!) broken wires. There's not enough room in that area to put 3 butt splices in place, so I'm wondering if it is possible to replace the wiring harness. I'm not finding it in the parts diagram. Is one available? Or must I replace the entire door?

1 Answer

Matt, If you look under the unit there is a tech sheet. Using the tech sheet you can test the icemaker, water valve and the emitter and receiver board to see if they are working properly.

Mike for Model Number KRSC703HPS01

My icemaker stopped making ice 1 year after purchase! The temperatures are good in the freezer and refrigerator. I changed the water filter and flushed, no difference. Ice production seemed to slow gradually over days or weeks, then one day just stopped. Tried heating the ice maker assembly with a hair dryer with no luck. If I empty the refrigerator and freezer and turn it off for a couple of days, could that possibly recycle the mechanism or unfreeze the line (if that’s the issue)?

1 Answer

Hello Mike, If the icemaker stopped with ice in it, the issue is normally the icemaker assembly or associated wiring. If the icemaker stopped with no ice in it, the issue could be a bad water inlet valve, a frozen water line, or a water supply issue.
