The Top Burner Igniter is an OEM part for Whirlpool gas cooktops and ranges. This thin metal coil provides the spark to light the burner flames during startup. It is a spark electrode with a male spade connection.

Causes involve cracking of fragile ceramic insulator casings allowing moisture ingress, compromised electrical connections cutting off sparking ability, or general wear reducing spark output strength.

Symptoms of failure consist of:

  • Inability to light one or more front gas burners
  • Click sounds but no flame present when turning burner knob
  • Safety issues arising from unlit gas accumulating

This is a genuine Whirlpool OEM replacement this part is also compatible with Maytag, Jenn-Air and some Kenmore models.

George, As you probably know, these "TORX" head screws WP3368921 are subjected to high heat, spillage, moisture, etc. They can be very difficult to remove and replace after a few years of usage. It's best to have a few on hand. In cases like yours, it's best to carefully drill out the screw head, then remove the burner base, drip pan, etc. Then carefully extract the screw using a pair of pliers or small vice grips.

Steve for Model Number JGD8430ADS

The igniter on the right front burner must have corroded and get pushed back down inside the fire box. I tried to remove the manifold. One screw snapped. The other I had to drill out. Now I need to order a new manifold for that burner. But here is the thing, now that i got the manifold off it looks like I need to take apart the whole cooktop in order to get inside the firebox. It appears it is all assembled with 1/4" sheet metal bolts. 2 in the font and back and 2 on each side, So here is my question? 1) I need to remove all the manifolds first correct? 2) Then if I raise and brace the fire box from below I an remove those 8 1/4" sheet metal bolts. Do I have to remove the 4 inside the down draft box too?

Steve, This is correct. You would remove the burner heads on the unit and then you would remove the 1/4" screws around the perimeter but should not have to remove them from the downdraft assembly.

Hello Michele, all ignitors for the top burners are the same. Order part# WP74009336. The ignitor should not need replacing that often. It is possible you may have another issue causing this. If replacing the ignitor seems to fix the problem, make sure you're getting a good ground and good wiring connections when these are installed. Thanks!

Duane, I've found model SF375PEEQ0. Please check your appliance model number as the model number given seems to be invalid. The left front igniter is part number W11087383, the left rear igniter is part number W11122877, the right front igniter is part number W11032529, and the right rear igniter is part number W11117434. Thanks!

John, The igniter itself, is not the issue. You will need to access the burner gas valves and check the ignition switches WP74011647,WP74011648 for a "closed circuit, when the valves are in the off position, or a shorted switch. If the switches check proper, you'll need the spark module WPW10475147, these are the components that make the igniter spark.

Hi. Remove the top grates and the top burner caps. Set them aside in order to be able to replace them. Remove all burners and do the same. Use a putty knife to reach in from the top front sides and release the inner clips that hold the top down. Prop the top up with a wooden handle being careful not to damage the insulation underneath. Unscrew the burner base from the gas feed tubing. Unscrew the igniter from the bottom of the burner base and replace then igniter part # WP74009336. Thank You.
