Questions & Answers

For Whirlpool Washer Water Inlet Valve Assembly (Part Number: OEM18047055)

1 Answer

Harvey, This unit is designed to act that way.Are you checking water temps or how much water is in tub? Load not completely covered in water. This is normal operation for an HE low-water washer. The load will not be completely underwater. The washer senses load sizes and adds correct amount of water for optimal cleaning. IMPORTANT: Do not add more water to washer. Adding water lifts the garments off the washplate, resulting in less effective cleaning.

Rd for Model Number CAWS9234VQ0

I have a Crosley brand name washing machine and when I place the temperature switch in the hot water position, the hot water will not turn on to fill the machine. I am currently using the cold water position on the switch, which works fine. I had a serviceman replace the temperature switch but I still cannot get hot water to flow into the machine when I turn the switch to hot water. I contacted another serviceman and he suggested that the Water Inlet Valve with Vacuum Break may not be working. Could this be my problem that I need to replace this part? Thank you for your time. RD

RD, It would be recommended to check to see if the hot water supply screen is clogged by turning off the water and removing the hose. If it is clogged use a toothbrush and soapy water to clean. If it checks ok then this will likely be the water valve that is faulty.

Rebekah, first remove power to the washer, raise and flip the control panel back and open and check the lid switch and wires to the switch WP8318084 , the lid has to be down, and the switch activated for the washer to drain and spin. Then check that the lid hinge is activating the lid switch and the lid hinge screws are tight. Then check the remainder of the wires to make sure they didn't get dislodged or disconnected by accident.

Joe, There is a thermistor that is located on the IVVB assembly that will sense the water temp and adjust according. Depending on the setting will be dependent on what the water temp should be when the tub is full. For the temp control cold/cold, the fill will be at 62°. The rinse on all settings is cold which is tap cold. For the Warm setting the temp will be 78° and on hot it will be 105°. If on hot it is barely warm then it sounds like the thermistor would be the cause and you would want to replace the IVVB Assembly.

Ed, There is not a video for the removal of the IVVB but you will need a putty knife. You will slide the putty knife under the corners of the control panel to push the spring clips. Once the control board is loose then remove the 2 clips that hold the cabinet to the unit. Lift off the cabinet and you will have access to the IVVB assembly.

Jeff, You should read 120 VAC at the fill valve solenoids when the washer is filling. Disconnect the wires from the solenoids and recheck the voltage across the two wires ( be careful) If the voltage (120 VAC) across the wires is in range then the fill valve WPW10140917 will need to be replaced. If the voltage remains the same (15 VAC) then you will need to check the wiring and all the connections, back to the timer and temperature switch.

Hello Mark. No there are no replacement instructions, as of yet. But it's not that difficult. Unplug the power cord, turn the water faucets off, and move the washer out enough to get behind the machine and disconnect(unscrew) the hoses from the fill valve. You'll see a large black plastic retainer button that will need to be carefully pryed out, and saved. Now you will need to raise the control pnel, and remove the washer cabinet."Components inside the washer cabinet can be accessed by completely removing the outer cabinet as one unit. 1. Remove the console mounting screws and tilt the console into the service position. ( Panel mounting screws can be located on the rear of the end caps, or in the front corners of the control panel . On newer models, there are spring clips on the bottom of the end caps, that need to be pressed in toward the rear of the unit to be released, using a putty knife or other flat bladed tool.) 2. Unplug the lid switch harness connector from the receptacle in the washer top. 3. Remove the cabinet mounting clips by placing the flat blade of a screwdriver in the clip and press down and towards the front to release the clip. 4. Remove the cabinet by tilting it forward and pulling it away from the washer. 4. Remove the cabinet by tilting it forward and pulling it away from the washer. 5. The rear panel can be tilted back for additional access to components at rear of machine by twisting the rear panel support." You'll need to "wiggle"m and move the assembly, until you get the tabs on the assemblt to clear the opening on the back panel so you can pull the assembly out and towards the front of the machine. disconnect the harness from the valve assembly and reverse the procedure to install the new part. reattch the cabinet and control console and check for operation.

Olin, This unit does have a thermistor that regulates the temp for the Temp sensor. Also on the rinse the unit only uses cold water rinse, so the unit would never fill for the rinse cycle.

Hello Mike, Check the screens on the water valve to make sure that it is not clogged. You can also check to make sure that the solenoid on the water valve is getting power. If the valve is getting power to the cold side and not putting water in then you need to replace the valve WPW10140917.
