For Whirlpool 40W Light Bulb (Part Number: OEM13537968)

Hello Stacy, This can be due to an excess of grease/steam from the cooktop getting into the light sockets, an excessive current in the lighting circuit, or a low-quality bulb. It is really hard to say what is causing this issue without being able to make some tests on the unit.

Demitrius, Yes an LED light bulb can be installed in place of the 40 watt incandescent hood light bulb. You wont really need a "dimmable" LED bulb. The power and illumination of the hood light is controlled through circuits on the control PCB. LED replacement bulbs are parts we do not distribute/sell. You will need to shop the local hardware store, home improvement center, etc. or on the inter net. Thanks,

Hello Pat, If you unplug the unit and remove the ten screws around the perimeter of the bottom of the unit, the bottom plate will lower to provide access to the light sockets. This will allow ample room to use needlenosed pliers for removal of the base of the bulbs. If lubricant is used, I would be sure to use a dielectric such as White Lithium Grease WP20000030 to prevent the possibility of shorting the circuit and causing issues with the power supply on the board.

Angie for Model Number Whirlpool WMH31017FB-0

I have a whirlpool microwave over the stove, that I purchasejust over a year ago. the bulb blew, but when I tried to remove it, the glass portion of the bulb separated from the socket. because the angle of the bulb is on the 'shorter' side of the opening, I am having an issue trying to access the remaining part of the bulb to remove. Any suggestions? (it is just like the one in the video http://www.appliancepartspros.com/whirlpool-light-bulb-8206232a-ap4512653.html

Angie, Once you remove power, the light lens, use a small pair of needle nose pliers, insert the end of the pliers into the remaining socket, spread the handles and turn the pliers counter clockwise, and carefully unscrew the socket. When you install the new bulb, apply a dab of dielectric grease or "vaseline" on the threads of the metal socket and screw the bulb back in, do not overtighten the bulb. return the len cover and restore power.

Michelle, You will want to check to make sure that there is 120 vac going to the light socket. If it is then this will be that the bulb may not be in tight and if there is not then will most likely be a issue with the main control board on the unit.
