The Drain Pump is an OEM part for Whirlpool washing machines. This component is essential for removing water from the washer during the drain cycle. It ensures that water is efficiently pumped out of the washing machine, preventing water from remaining in the tub after a wash cycle, which is crucial for the appliance's proper operation and the cleanliness of your laundry.

You should replace the drain pump if it becomes faulty or stops working. Common causes of a bad drain pump include blockages from debris or lint, wear and tear over time, or electrical malfunctions. These issues can prevent the pump from effectively draining water.

Symptoms of a bad drain pump include:

  • Water not draining from the washing machine
  • Unusual noises during the drain cycle, such as humming or grinding
  • The washer stopping mid-cycle with water still in the tub
  • Error codes related to draining issues on the washer's display

This OEM part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore models.

Questions & Answers

For Whirlpool Drain Pump (Part Number: OEM18055260)

1 Answer

Lorenzo, You will want to check to make sure that the drain is not clogged and if it is not then check to ensure that the drain pump is getting 120 vac to it. If the drain pump is getting proper power but the unit is not draining then this will be a faulty drain pump. If there is no power to the drain pump then check the wiring between the pump and the board, if that is good then replace the main control board.

Nancy for Model Number WTW4950XW3

I have a whirlpool washer model WTW4950XW3. It is not spinning out all the water. As if the load needs to be re-balanced. I have pulled everything out and re-balanced it and hit the start button again it spins but clothes are still heavy with water. No noticeable water setting in tub. I have to cancel the cycle and then put it on a drain spin cycle and it will spin the water out of the clothes. I pulled the drain hose. There was about a gallon of water that I got in my bucket. I pulled the pump and there was no noticeable clogs. The washer is not off-balance and does not shake could this be a pump issue or? Just don’t want to buy a pump if it might be in the board and more expensive. Thank you for your help Nancy.

Hello Nancy, there is more than one possible cause for poor spin speed, the diagnostic mode needs to be run first to find the root cause, it is on the Tech Sheet that came with the washer and is located behind the front cabinet panel near the top in a plastic envelope.

Brian, if the drain pump will operate in every other setting and the appliance will go into a proper spin, the control W10480291 would be the likely cause of failure based on the information provided.

Hello Brandon, behind the front panel near the top in a plastic envelope is the Tech Sheet, you can use it to just run the drain pump, if it is not running and it is new then you will need a new control board, part W10484683.

Timothy, The manufacturer of the part does not give the flow rate and says run 10 minutes off 50 minutes so we can not advise continuous flow.

LD, With the drain pump working only part of the time, this would be a drain pump issue as there is power to the pump but not draining the water.

Frank, If the pump is draining the water then this would not be the issue of the unit not going to spin. You will want to check to make sure that the pressure hose is not clogged. If it is not then check to make sure that the pressure switch is resetting to empty. If this does not correct the issue then this will be a main control board issue.

Hello Kenneth. It does have a magnet that causes resistance. If the unit is noisy you will need to replace the pump on the unit. Thank you.
