Questions & Answers

For Whirlpool Dishwasher Drain Pump (Part Number: OEM18030774)

Murray, This issue will be caused by a failure in the heating circuit. You will want to test the heater, the thermistor and wiring from the heater to the control board. If all this checks ok then replace the control board.

Hello Doug. You will need to open the unit and see if you see any damaged boards WP8564543 WP8270168 or wiring on the unit. Usually when components fail, it causes the issue you are having with the unit.

I purchased a pump/sump/motor assembly. It was slightly difficult to repair by myself but was able to get the sump gasket to seal and reset the 3 nylon clips. However, now the drain gasket leaks. It is a black O-ring and it appears to be sloppy, does not fit up tight behind the impeller back plate. It produces a steady drip. I took it off to clean it up and lubricate prior to reinstalling the second time. It doesn't appear that it can be purchased without buying the complete pump...which is not necessary. Is the O-ring an off the shelf item? What other ideas are there to solve the situation. Thx

1 Answer

Hello Joe. Check with your local hardware store for just the o-ring. It is not available separately from the manufacture.

Tony, The pump would be removed from the bottom of the tub. You could pull the complete sump out from inside and change the pump but getting the sump back in can be daunting getting it lined up properly and getting clips back in place.

Dishwasher wont drain. Took off hose and it is not plugged. I didn't know there was a flap in the hose at the end where it connects to the disposal and I thought something was in it so I pushed something down it. It still seems to work when I blew air through it. I took apart the accumulator and the check valve is okay. I can hear it running when I do cancel to drain the water but none comes out. Should I look to see if something is stuck in the drain pump or what do I do next? The dishwasher was working fine mostly, occasionally it would leave a little bit of water in it and then I would hit cancel and it would drain. Then it started leaking and so we took apart all of this stuff to see where it was leaking but come to find out it was leaking because it had a crack in the bottom of the dishwasher because of some burned plastic. We fixed that with some plumbers epoxy but now it wont drain at all. I did take the wires off the start capacitor but I thought I put them back on the same way I took them off. What should I check now?

Hello Sandra, This is probably a broken chopper blade shaft W10083957V causing the screen to stop up and preventing the unit from draining.

Hello Shane. You will need to check and see if the check valve WP8268375 that is located in the sump is working properly. It should prevent water from coming back into the dishwasher. Also, the drain hose needs to be raised up on the dishwasher to create an air gap on the drain hose line. If the unit is not draining properly, you will need to check and see if the drain pump WP661658 is bad on the unit.
