This is an ice maker recirculation pump assembly. This part includes a motor and pump that sends water from the reservoir over the top of the evaporator plate. This forms the slab of ice that will then drop onto the cutting grid to make ice cubes. In the event that the appliance is not making ice, it could be because this part has gone bad. Some users report the pump becoming calcified and then no longer working. Whether this happens or not can depend upon the water quality. Unplug the appliance from the electrical outlet prior to attempting to replace this part. Wear work gloves for safety. This particular recirculation pump is compatible with ice cube makers that are manufactured by the Whirlpool, Kenmore, KitchenAid, and Scotsman brands. This part is sold individually and is sourced directly from the manufacturer.

For Whirlpool Ice Maker Recirculation Pump Assembly (Part Number: OEM18020001)

Sally, In a lot of cases with this model the issue would be one of 2 things. If the unit is hooked up to a auxiliary drain pump then it is possible that the pump has a short in it that is causing the unit to power off. The other thing would be the water level sensor. If the sensor is faulty it can cause the unit to power down thinking that the water is continuously filling up and overflowing. You will want to test the sensor and if the sensor checks ok and not on a auxiliary drain then the issue would be the control board.

Raymond for Model Number GI1500XHW9

The Ice maker ( Whirlpool GI 1500XHWP) will make ice for about 24 hours, then sticks in noisy mode and stops producing ice. I have turn it off, and wait for about 12 hours then, turn it back on. It will then recycle and start making ice again. It also will make a clicking on and off sound for a while before to gets stuck in the noisy mode. The drain pump works, and I had the control module replaced. Still has not solved the problem. The unit has been cleaned. What part do I need to replace next?

Hello Raymond. It sounds like the valve is bad and is not filling the unit all the time. You may need to replace the water valve on the unit.

Hello Joe. Leveling just affects the water level in the fill bin. You may need to replace the level sensor.

Hello John. It sounds like the reversing valve is not reversing to release the ice from the plate or the unit is not cycling off to release the ice. See if the sensor is hanging from the bottom of the plate. If so, the evaporator WR85X10045 will need to be replaced.

Tony, If the clean light flashes 2 times then there is a bin thermistor fault and if the clean light flashes 5 times then there is an evaporator thermistor fault. If the unit is steady flashing with no pause then the control board is most likely faulty.

Brian for Model Number KUIA18NNJS4

I recently replaced the circulation pump in my Kitchen Aide ice machine. The unit was up and running great. Just last night I opened the unit to get ice and noticed the unit was really warm inside and the unit was low on ice. I checked the unit this morning and the unit is empty and very warm inside. The circulation pump is running and water is flowing over the plate however there is not ice freezing. The circulation pump is very warm to the touch and is still working constantly running water over the plate. I assume the pump is warm because it is constantly running. Would this not be making ice because the freeze plate is not working now. I need some help asap. thanks

Brian, You will need to check to make sure that the compressor is running. If not then most likely the start relay has failed. Also check to make sure that the condenser fan is running and that the condenser coils are clean. If all this checks ok and the compressor is running then the issue would be a sealed system issue.
