This is an ice maker recirculation pump assembly. This part includes a motor and pump that sends water from the reservoir over the top of the evaporator plate. This forms the slab of ice that will then drop onto the cutting grid to make ice cubes. In the event that the appliance is not making ice, it could be because this part has gone bad. Some users report the pump becoming calcified and then no longer working. Whether this happens or not can depend upon the water quality. Unplug the appliance from the electrical outlet prior to attempting to replace this part. Wear work gloves for safety. This particular recirculation pump is compatible with ice cube makers that are manufactured by the Whirlpool, Kenmore, KitchenAid, and Scotsman brands. This part is sold individually and is sourced directly from the manufacturer.

For Whirlpool Ice Maker Recirculation Pump Assembly (Part Number: OEM18020001)

Brian for Model Number kitchenaid model KUIA18NNJS4 ice maker

My icemaker has been working great and we just recently 1 month ago used some nickle free cleaning solution which cleaned the unit. Just the last couple of days the unit has really become quite loud when the circulation pump is pumping water of over the freezing plate. It stops the noise when it stops pumping then starts up again when circulating the water. It still makes ice but very loud. I tried running the ice maker through the cleaning cycle and it got quieter, so am I needing a new circulation pump or do I need to run another solution through system. Some advice would be much appreciated. Thanks

Hello Brian, The motor (AP3083251) is in need of replacement when it is loud. It will extend the life of the pump to use the nickel safe cleaner in it three or four times a year.

Buddy, Based on the description it does sound like the pump bearings on the unit may be bad and the pump would need to be replaced. If the noise is not coming from inside the unit then you would want to check the condenser fan motor.

Hello Joe, As long as you have verified that the circulation pump WP2217220 is getting voltage from the board, I believe you are correct.

Hello George, You may want to check to make sure that your condenser fan motor is running and that your condenser coils are not clogged. These are two problems that could cause compressor to overheat and shut down. This may be the clicking noise you are hearing, the compressor trying to start.

Hello Mary, The water will only surge if the pump is running out of water to circulate. This can only be caused by the water valve W10801996, the tank 8201617 leaking, (the cap WP2185696 could be loose or cracked), or the pump WP2217220 itself. Most of the time the seals in the pump will be at fault. Once in a while you will find a hose off or not connected good. The cutting grid WP2313637 is available also.

Hi Mike. Make sure you are not connected to a hot water supply line. It will create a cloudy mixture. If you are just using the clean cycle , it is best to periodically use the Nickel Safe Cleaner part # WX08X42870. You can use a in line water filter to get the sediment out before entering the machine. It is part # TJ9CIMKIT20. Thank You.

Hello Larry. Based on the information you provided, it sounds like the pump assembly. Check and see if the noise is coming from the pump assembly WP2217220. If so, you will need to replace the pump assembly on the unit. Hope this helps.

Bill S for Model Number GI 1500 PHB3

My ice machine has had the pump replaced a couple of times over the years. Now 18 months after the last pump replacment, I have a problem it seems again. The water over the grid will start flowing and then there is a bump noise and the water stops. The reservoir will continue to overflow into the bucket. I have had the "marching" sound for several months but contributed it to a need to clean the plate. Of course now, it will not produce ice. Do you think it is a simple pump replacement fix? If so, why are the pumps not lasting? Thanks, Bill

Hi Bill. You need to replace the circulation pump part # WP2217220. You regularly need to use nickle safe cleaner part # WX08X42870 every month to insure proper performance and system is clean. Make sure the condenser coils are clean also. Thank You.
