Questions & Answers

For Whirlpool Gas Range Safety Valve (Part Number: OEM18042801)

Hello Bill. The most common failure is the igniter. The easiest way to test the igniter is with a clamp on amp meter TJMA-600CFA. The gas valve will not open until 3.2 to 3.6 amps of current passes through the igniter. If you never achieve this current draw, the igniter W10918546 requires replacement. Hope this helps!

Hello Natarajan! For a white thermostat knob use part number WP98008321 and for a biscuit thermostat knob use part number 98008322. If the stem that the control knobs installs onto broke you will need to replace the thermostat part number WPW10641988. Thanks!

Hello Tom. The gas valve needs 3.2 to 3.6 VAC to open on it's own. If the igniter is weak, the voltage is drawn to the weak igniter and limited to the gas valve. If you tap on the valve with a low voltage draw, you are basically forcing it to open. You will need to replace the igniter to repair the unit. Hope this helps.

The oven portion of the stove does not work. On occasion it will come on but lately nothing happens. I removed the back cover or sheild that has the gas saftey valve behind it and measure the voltage at the valve. When the oven knob is first turned on it reads about 3 Volts AC and then slowly drops to 2.5 volts where it stays at all times that the knob is turned on. I tapped on the saftey valve and then the gas would come on and the oven would start. Is the voltage I am showing enough to activate the saftey valve? The ignitor glows orange and appears to be working just fine. I think it needs a gas saftey valve or is the power that comes from the oven control knob, not enough? Your help is appreciated.

Hello Tom. No, based on the information, the igniter W10918546 is weak and will need to be replaced. The voltage needs to be higher. Hope this helps.

Nicholas W. for Model Number 98007018

During a storm on Sunday, we were using our oven to cook. When the timer went off, the oven was only warm. We discovered that the flame was not lit nor would it ignite. While trying this, we also noticed that we did not smell any gas. We took apart the back and used a tester light. After trying to turn the oven on, there were 2 clicking sounds (trying to ignite) and the tester light lit up. The stovetop works, but the oven does not. Does it sound like the gas valve needs to be replaced? Thank You.

Hello Nicholas. If there is power coming to the gas valve and the igniter is working properly, but no gas is being released, you will need to replace the gas valve. Hope this helps.
