The Spark Module Kit is an OEM part for Whirlpool ranges. It is responsible for generating the spark needed to ignite the gas burners on the cooktop. The spark module sends electrical signals to the igniters, creating the spark that lights the gas for cooking.

Over time, the spark module can fail due to electrical issues, exposure to moisture, or normal wear and tear. When the spark module becomes faulty, it can lead to various problems with igniting the burners.

Symptoms of a bad spark module include:

  • Burners not lighting or taking a long time to light
  • No clicking sound when turning the burner knob
  • Burners only lighting intermittently
  • Visible sparks or arcing from the module

This OEM part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore models.

NOTE: This part is only compatible with serial numbers starting with 21 and up on model 8351VV.

Hello Buster! If you are needing the ceramic ignitors on the burner assembly, they are not available separate from the burner assembly 74001260, which has been discontinued with no replacements available. Sorry!

Hi Wayne. There can be a couple of device's involved. Commonly, the ignitor part # 74007498 may open so the gas valve wont emit gas. It should read 75-800 ohms cold with an ohm meter. If it is OK and not open in the middle, then the Safety Valve part # WP74009891 is defective not allowing gas to flow. Thank you.

Walter for Model Number Maytag CHB9800BAB

Two questions: 1) For some time I have used a match to light all four burners on the top of my range. I get spark on all of them but it is usually intermittent on any one burner, and often doesn't seem to light the gas stream even when it sparks several times in a row. I have cleaned the gas ports around each ignitor, also checked for loose wires on all ignitors. Question: does the spark module produce a weaker spark over time, or does it usually work or not work? 2) My range has one high output burner, and I'm afraid that when I removed all of my burners I may have mixed them up. I cant see any difference in them. How can I tell which one is high output? Also, does a high-output burner usually have a high output orifice beneath it? Thanks for your help.

Walter, Yes, spark modules can loose their high voltage output after quite some time, and produce a weak irratic spark. As long as the burner base and area around the burner are clean and moisture free, Repalce the spark module. The high output burner is the right front burner on your range, as long as you did not disturb the orifices or mounting tubes you'll be fine, the burner caps are all the same, the orifices are different. Good Luck and Thanks

Hi James. Remove power. This is more than likely to have a black(line) wire from a switch shorting or pinched. You will need to remove the grates, and burners. Remove the knobs. Lift the unit from the cabinet. Take the top assy. off. Inspect before touching anything because a direct short will tell on itself by leaving a black burnt spot somewhere. The switch is part # W10138052. This kit will replace all switch wires and switches. Thank you.

Keith for Model Number 31213XAA

Hello, I have a Magic Chef stand alone range model 31213XAA that has 4 burners on top of which only two spark and light normally. The other two need a match or scripto lighter to lite. I just ordered and replaced all 4 burners since they were all old, and was surprised to see that the same two burners that didn't lite before are still not lighting. Is this the "spark module," and where is it located on my model Magic Chef? Thank you in advance for your answer.

Hello Mike. Based on the information you provided, it sounds like the spark module 12001596 is bad and will need to be replaced. If all four igniters are giving problems, it leads to the spark module. Hope this helps.
