This door lock spin enable switch signals the washer's control that the door is securely locked so the cycle can advance into high-speed spin. Replacing a failed switch restores safe spin operation and prevents door/lock-related interruptions.

  • Confirms the door latch is fully engaged and enables spin
  • Prevents the drum from spinning when the door is not locked
  • Common failure symptoms: won't spin or stops before high-speed spin; door/lock light doesn't come on; intermittent spin or door/lock error
What's included: 1 spin enable switch Install notes:
  • Disconnect power (and turn off water) before servicing
  • Access the door latch assembly; remove the door boot clamp if required
  • Transfer wires to the new switch one at a time; secure the switch in the latch housing
  • Reassemble, verify the door locks, and run a spin test

For Whirlpool Door Lock Spin Enable Switch (Part Number: OEM18018810)

Frederick for Model Number MLE2000AYW

Doesn’t drain and has no high-speed spin. So far: Changed drain pump. Checked drain hose height and for blockage. Changed wax motor. The old one had snapped off the actuator. Installed a new circuit board. Small improvement but clothes are still way too wet. I just ordered the belt and isolator. Now I just read about the door switch preventing hi-speed. Before I order is there a test for the old one to know for sure it’s bad? Haven’t had laundry in two weeks. Getting old! Anything else a cause for this condition?

Frederick, the door lock/ spin enable switch WP22002162 can be tested for continuity. When the plunger is not pressed, there should not be continuity. When the plunger is pressed, there should be continuity. It would also be recommended that the spin basket is rotated by hand to identify if it can rotate freely.

Hello Don, on this washer model the main control board WP22002989 and the timer WP22002867 work together. Suggest you unplug the washer and access and check the main control board in the control panel area, , check both sides of the circuit board for any burns or overheated components. If any found the main board would need to be replaced, if no marks found likely you would need both the control board and the timer.

Rober, Yes the unit may not be going into high speed spin at the end of the cycle if the door lock assembly is not operating properly. There is a spin enable switch that must be activated and you will want to check to make sure that it is. The most likely cause for this to not activate would be a bad wax motor on the door lock assembly.

John, With the clothes being wet and there being water left, you will want to check the drain pump to make sure that the drain does not have a restriction. For the switch you would check it for continuity but you will also want to check to make sure that the wax motor is extending enough to hit the spin enable switch. If not then the wax motor is bad.

Tony, You will want to check the spin enable switch to make sure that it is good. If faulty then it would need to be replaced. If the enable switch is bad the unit will not spin.

Hello Roxy, The door lock feature is not designed for the customers' convenience and while it may be a pain for you, I'm sorry but we cannot advise anyone on how to bypass a safety feature of any type on any unit. This would leave us vulnerable to a lawsuit should anything happen with the unit.

Hello Joel. Check and see if the pump may be clogged. If not, check the basket and make sure it spins freely. If so, check the balance switches and the spin enable switches on the unit.

Greg for Model Number MAH3000

Need to diagnose problem with washer. Machine will stop anywhere in the wash cycle. Checked wax motor. It is locking. Checked R11 and it is not burned. Propped a piece of wood against the door to insure a tight seal and still the problem persist. Can start the machine again by simply pressing the Start Button and it will continue in its cycle and stop again somewhere else in the cycle. Sometimes it will go through to the third rinse cycle and not do a final spin. Again, when and where it stops is inconsistent. Problem started after I replaced the door boot (bellows). What do I need to check next?

Hello Greg, First, make sure the selector buttons are fully engaged for the selections for the wash. You should then check out the out-of-balance circuit. As long as the door lock light is working, I don't believe it will be an issue. Be aware that the manufacturer has recommended that if a micro-switch for out-of-balance is on the left rear strut, cut the wires and splice them directly together to eliminate the switch from the circuit. Don't forget to pull on the two big blue wires in the front center that go to the switch down there. I have seen them simply pull out from a broken wire. This is also in the out-of-balance circuit.
