For Whirlpool Switch, Igniter (Part Number: OEM18032886)

Ted for Model Number MSG5870ADB

Front right burner will not light due to no ignition spark. Replaced the spark ignitor at the right front burner. Checked the spark module and is OK. Only thing left is the igniter switch but there are different series number for this model and not sure which ignitor switch to order. The front right gas valve stem and knob is bigger then the rest of the valve stems. There is no series no. on the range plate but has a serial number that starts with a 20..... if that means something. The existing ignition switch has numbers 50 (lower right) and 90 (lower left). Any suggestions?

Barbara, Your range doesn't have a "Bake Switch". The ERC (electronic range control) WP5701M382-60, Applies 120 VAC power to the igniter 74007498, when a bake or broil selection is made. The igniter glows until the system draws 3.2 to 3.6 amps, at the proper amp draw, the safety valve opens and the burner ignites. You most likely have a weak or cracked oven bake igniter 74007498 again, based on your description

Neil, Your oven will have a bake and broil igniter. If the unit preheats then the issue would most likely not be the igniter but the safety valve coils. If the coils are open to quickly then the unit will take too long to preheat and cook. Here is what you want to do Test for 3.2-3.6 amps at the gas safety valve with the igniter turned on. If the voltage is there, you have a bad safety valve. If the voltage is low, you have a weak igniter and the igniter will need to be replaced. You can test this with a multi-meter TJMA-DMT3. Here is a link on how to use a multi-meter. http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/oven-repair-including-ranges-cooktops/4810-how-check-continuity-ohmmeter.html

Glenda, The ignition switch should have connectors that disconnect. If not then the new switch would have wires coming off of it to splice to the wiring. When taking switch off you just pull straight out and push new one straight on to lock in place.
