The Oven Membrane Switch is an OEM part for Whirlpool ovens. It serves as the interface for selecting and controlling various cooking functions. The membrane switch panel responds to touch inputs, allowing users to set temperatures, timers, and other oven settings efficiently.

Over time, the membrane switch can become faulty due to regular wear and tear, exposure to heat and moisture, or accidental damage. These factors can lead to malfunctions in the touchpad or its responsiveness.

Symptoms of a bad membrane switch include:

  • Unresponsive or intermittent touch controls
  • Error codes displayed on the oven
  • Inability to set or adjust cooking functions
  • Some buttons not working at all

This OEM part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore models.

Rick, check the connection from the membrane to the control board, look for any discoloration on the ribbon. Try cleaning the ribbon where it connects to the board. More than likely the main control is what is being affected by the heat and is locking up. Part number for the board is WP8507P390-60 if you see any burned spots on the ribbon, it will need to be replaced, part number is WPW10207928

Hello Shade, if there is no display using a multimeter access the rear of the stove remove the rear panel and check the hi-temp thermal limiter for continuity, it has 2 black wires going to it, if it tests ok, the display board is powered by a transformer located near the oven's cooling blower, it should have 120v input and has several low voltage outputs to the display board, you can check these voltages also at the display board's P1 connector. The display/ui board is WP9762794, the transformer is WPW10111628.

My membrane switch or control panel has been going out but I've been able to use the range oven, the burners, and some of the buttons. Now, I can't use anything. The clock still works. LOL But I had to wait until the time was the same before I could set it. If I replace the range membrane switch part #10207928 will this correct the issue or is the heating problem IE oven and burners, separate from the control buttons? My son knows quite a lot about programming (as he is capable of programming an entire interactive building) and he says the heating is connected to the computer membrane. Is it?

Hello Arturo. You start by removing all the knobs. Then lift the outer control panel up and off. Then remove the door. Then remove the lower control panel trim assy. Then remove the burner top side screws and lift the top up to access the control panel top 2-corner screws. Then you will have to support the loose control panel assy. This will give you full access to the back of the clock mount screws. Disconnect the side ribbon cable locks on the clock terminal block (if applicable). Then pull out the ribbon cable from the board. Remove the clock after noting all clock connections. Use a cell phone to picture all connections for proper reassembly. After the clock is removed then peel off the rt. side of the membrane off the console face until the complete membrane comes off. Then reinsert the new ribbon cable through the open slot on the left. Make sure it does not get kinked while correctly reinserting it into the clock board. Line up the #1 terminal correctly as the #2 terminal -to- the ribbon cable is left purposely blank so there is no confusion of the #1 terminal position. Peel and stick the new membrane part # W10207928 onto the face of the console assy.

In the touch pad, the "Bake" button is not working anymore, however while just pressing random buttons I did notice that if I press and hold the "favorites" button and then touch the "bake" button it will respond by going into delay mode. I'm not sure if this is a proper response for that combination but the thing that interest me is that in this scenario the "bake" button does respond to touch. The rest of the buttons work as they should. Will changing the membrane switch correct this or could it be the control panel? Thank you

Hello Carl. If there is no display, you will need to replace the control board WP8507P390-60 and not the membrane. Remove the power. Remove the door. Remove all burner assy. and lay them separately aside so you can reinstall them in the same area. Make sure you are careful unhooking the igniters (they will crack and end up bad). Then lift the top and support it with the supplied rod or a piece of wood. All this will give access to the top of the control panel and the surrounding bottom control panel screws. Once you remove the control panel, it will give access to the clock mount screws and the ribbon cables for the membrane assy. Make sure the ribbon cable is not kinked or broken when reinstalling the control panel. Make sure you reinsert the ribbon cable pushed in tight and locked (if equipped). Thank You.
