Hello Gerald. You can test both thermostats for continuity but before you test them you should make sure you are getting 240v to the unit. The dryer can run on 120v but it won't heat. Thanks!

Hello Gretchen, You may want to check the thermistors and thermostats 279816. Check continuity and if there is no continuity then you would need to replace them. Also check the venting from the blower wheel to the outside of home for being clogged. This would cause thermistors to go out on unit. Also check for continuity through heater assembly or pull heater 279838 to make sure that there are no breaks in the coils. Make sure all this is being done with no power to unit. You can test this with a multi-meter TJMA-DMT3. Here is a link on how to use a multi-meter. http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/oven-repair-including-ranges-cooktops/4810-how-check-continuity-ohmmeter.html

Hello Eric. First, lets check the most common parts to cause this issue. There is a thermal fuse WP3392519 and the door switch WP3406107 that can cause the issue you are having. Both parts should read closed for continuity, but the door switch has to be closed by pressing the switch lever. You can test this with a multi-meter TJMA-DMT3. Wes, Depending on the cycle you selected, If the dryer doesn't heat, the timer won't advance. You may want to slide the dryer out and check for a damaged heater element 279838 or open thermal fuse 279816 or wire.
