Tom for Model Number Model # MDE4000AYW, Serial # 25639562WS

Over the last year each of my cycles have one by one stopped heating. We'd use another then it would stop heating. The only cycle that heats now is the timed cycle and only if we have it set on 20 min or below. No other cycle heats, they run - but it only puts out cool air. I have been reading all the detailed reports on this machine but am getting confused at where to begin here. First I thought it was a fuse, something else, now I'm lost. I know it heats, in that 20 minute window we have been drying clothes for about a month. I'm leaning toward the timer, but I can hear the timer running on the other cycles so I'm not sure I want to spend $100 to replace a part I don't need. I will if I have to, is there some options I can check to narrow my selection. I'll die if I have to spend $250 to find a solution when I could have put that towards a new unit. Thanks for any help I can get!

Cindy, Normally, it would be a timer issue. in your case, it could also be a dryness control board and or sensor bar issue WP33002389 and 33001809. Its most likely an issue in the dryness control assembly, but you'd need a multi meter to test the neutral circuit through the PCB. Thanks and Good Luck

Chris for Model Number MDE8600AYW

I have a Maytag Dryer with a mind of its own. On the IntelliDry (moisture sensing) cycles, the dryer heats, dries and the timer advances past the off position but the dryer continues to heat and run until I open the door or turn it off. (It will run all night). On the timed drying cycle, it works perfectly and shuts off properly when it's supposed. Last night I took the entire dryer apart. I vacuumed it all and checked for burnt and loose wiring. All wiring was fine. Is this a bad timer, bad sensor of something else?

Chris, You need to check the sensor bar and the wires to the sensor bar, inside the drum remove and clean the sensor bar with alcohol or electrical contact cleaner, make sure the area under the sensor bar is clean as well, and the wires are not damaged. If that doesn't solve the issue, you'll need a new "dryness display' assembly WP33002389 . The auto dry circuit in the printed circuit board would have failed and is causing the issue. Thanks and Good Luck.

Hello David. You will need to test the hi-limit thermostat WP303395 and the flame sensor WP338906 and make sure they are good. They should read closed for continuity. Also, check the igniter WP33002789 and make sure it is getting hot enough to light the gas. If all of this is good, you will need to change the coils 279834. Here is a link on how to use a multi-meter for the testing procedures. Hope this helps. http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/oven-repair-including-ranges-cooktops/4810-how-check-continuity-ohmmeter.html

Hello LR. WP33001730 is the correct timer for your serial number. These are not bad to change. Disconnect the power to the unit. Remove the back panel of the control panel. Then remove the knob and the screws holding the timer in place. Put the wires off the old timer onto the correct terminals on the new timer. Reinstall in reverse order. Hope this helps.
