Pacerman, based on the information provided, the timer WP8541110 would be the likely cause due to the timer motor not switching contacts to allow the cycles to continue without the long pause.

Cal762 for Model Number 110.24962301

Daughter was doing laundry. Said washer stopped mid cycle. Would not do anything on any timer setting. No filling with water, no spinning, no nothing. Bypassed lid switch. Could hear faint clicking every minute or so. (I guess i didn't notice that before.) Figured out it was the circuit breaker in the motor, and that the motor was shorted. Installed new motor, same problem. Nothing except clicking noise from breaker again.(And a lighter wallet.) Drivetrain is free/not binding. Could it be in the wiring or the timer? How do I check it?

1 Answer

Cal, Check to make sure that there is nothing caught in the drain pump and that the drain pump is turning. If something has gotten caught it will cause the motor to trip out on overload. If this checks ok then you will want to make sure that there is power to the motor. If there is then this would most likely be a timer issue.

Phas for Model Number Whirlpool 8541110 Timer Unit

My washer's spin cycle was running as a rinse cycle so I disassembled its timer unit and sanded the corroded/oxidized contacts inside. It is working for now but I would like to replace the contacts entirely to avoid future problems. Is it possible to obtain this one internal timer component without buying a whole new timer? The part I need is the light plastic block with the metal tabs sticking out: http://cdn.appliancepartspros.com/images/product/cache/whirlpool-timer-8541110-ap3183061_02_l.jpg It looks sort of like this when removed, but this isn't the exact model used by my timer: http://letsfixit.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/gravity_forms/7-360a393bb4f630dd690cefd9d3f75bc2/2012/10/51.jpg

Mike for Model Number Kenmore elite washer. Model 110.24962301

On normal wash setting. The spin cycle works fine after the wash cycle but after the rinse cycle the washer will not spin out the water. It just hmmm's like the motor is working but not engaging with the bucket. When I lifted up the lid and closed it the bucket started to spin but when I closed and opened it again the bucket stopped spinning and after opening and closing several times it never engaged again. Do you have any thoughts. Thanks!

Mike, The first thing that you will want to check would be the lid switch on the unit. It sounds like it may have failed. If the lid switch checks ok then the issue will most likely be in the timer but the switch is the most likely with the symptoms.

Monica for Model Number 11016922502

My huband and dad tried to replace the water pump and didn't know how to get into the washer. After finding your site solution solved, however in the process they spun the timer knob round and round to the point now the machine doesn't kick over to the rinse cycle it just fills with water.(not overflow). I can manually push the knob in and turn it to spin. The motor does not make noise, could it be the lid switch or the dial and guard timer. I've already replaced the timer knob and nothing....thanks

1 Answer

Hello Monica. They need to make sure they plugged the lid switch back in and if so, it may be bad on the unit. If bad, the washer will not spin.

Hello Larry, This can be caused by a bad motor WP8541504 winding or a failed clutch assembly WP8299642. It could also be an item in the drain pump WP3363394, preventing the rotation of the pump in one direction only. You will need to do some troubleshooting to locate the issue.

Ed for Model Number 11026924500

This is a Kenmore washer 11026924500. The motor seemed to be jammed. Made a loud humming noise. I pulled the motor and just letting it sit in the floor, not connected in any way to the machine other than the wiring connection it still would not go, ... just hums. However, if I spin it by hand it takes off and runs strong, smooth and quiet. I have changed the capacitor and that did not fix it. Opening and closing the lid turns the hum on and off. So I reason it is not the lid switch. I just purchased your timer. What are the chances that is the problem? Do you think it could be the motor? Could I have been sold the wrong capacitor? (From a local parts house Didn't fix it and can't be returned.) Thanks in advance for any help you can give me. Ed

1 Answer

Hello Ed. If you turn the motor by hand and it runs, it sounds like the motor WP8541504 is bad and will need to be replaced on the unit.

Geoffrey, We would have to agree with you, the most likely issue, based on your post information is a faulty timer WP8541110. There is most likely a failed contact or a damaged cam wheel, causing an internal short in the timer, and causing the breaker to trip open.

William, The clank noise is the brake releasing or the clutch releasing. For the agitation or spin speed not going at the right speed then the issue would most likely be caused by a bad cycle switch 3950357.
