Hello Lynn. Test the thermal fuse WP33001762 and see if it is bad. It should read closed for continuity. If open, you will need to replace the fuse, and clean the vent and check for kinks in the vent. If the vent is bad, the auto dry will not work properly. The vent can blow the fuse on the unit. You can test this with a multi-meter TJMA-DMT3. Here is a link on how to use a multi-meter. Hope this helps. http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/oven-repair-including-ranges-cooktops/4810-how-check-continuity-ohmmeter.html

John, I doubt you need a new wire harness or timer. First thing you need to check is the exhaust temperature or the cycling thermostat. A quick easy test, remove the exhaust vent from the dryer back, check and make sure the filter is clean, and start the dryer on an auto cycle, let it run 10 minutes and see if the timer dial advances, if it does, you have a clogged vent system. If not check the regulating thermostat and orange wire from the themostat back up to the timer. The orange wire supplies 120 VAC to the timer motor, when the regulating thermostat cycles open and turns the burner off. Thanks and Good Luck

Mike, Baseed on the model and serial number of the dryer you supplied, The timer part number needed should have been WP33002803 mpn 33002803 or srvc mpn 6 3720660 and the matching wire harness should be 33002805 mpn 33002805 srvc mnp 6 3720530. Do any of these numbers look familiar? What was your original complaint, and do you still have the old "original" parts? Thanks.

Hi Mike. Thank you for the timer information. The tech's here will keep track of this. The harness will be in between the timer and the wire harness. This is what we understand. This is an updated timer issue. We still need the wire harness tag # on your unit to make suer you get the correct jumper/ and timer. Thank you.

Hello Steve. Based on the model and serial number you provided, WP33002855 is the correct timer. You will need to remove the cap WP22003989 off the timer knob to release the knob from the timer. The cap unsnapps off the knob. Hope this helps.

Betsy B for Model Number Maytag model # MDE6400AYW serial # 12512074CA

My dryer has BOTH problems that I have just read seem to be problems for other people too. I have to play with the start knob to get it to come on. Sometimes it seems to help if I open and close the door first and then pull the knob again but it is hit and miss. But now the dryer will not turn off unless I physically open the door. It will run all day if I'm not paying attention. What parts do I need to fix it and can I do this myself?

1 Answer

Hi Betsy. Yes you can simply remove all power and replace these parts yourself. The timer is part # WP33002803. The door switch is part # W10169313. The timer knob needs to be removed first by getting to the back of the timer and pulling the center hidden shaft extension that holds the knob in place. Then there will be a finger clip on the back connected to the timer that locks it in the back of the panel. Twist slightly and the timer will rotate and remove. The door switch can be removed with a small plastic putty knife from the sides and removing out from the front panel. Follow the instructions closely. Thank you.
