For Whirlpool Timer (Part Number: OEM18024006)

Christy for Model Number mde6400ayw

I have the maytag MDE6400AYW dryer serial no 17515558ce. The dryer turns on fine but will not turn off unless you open the door. I have tried it on all the settings and still will not turn off. We ordered a new timer part no. 33002803 and installed it but then would not even turn on, on any setting. Do we have the wrong timer? Could it be another part and not just the timer? Christy S for Model Number MDE6400AYW ANSWER Hello Christy. Based on the model and serial number you provided, 33002803 is the correct timer. You will need to check and make sure all connections are good and tight on the unit. If it still does not work, look and see if you can locate a part number on the old timer. There is a chance, your model may have had old stock installed into it and it caused the issue you are facing. My old timer has the following numbers: 3044B Maytag 6 3721230 M285 Kingston 70770-A 00590

Dan, It may be that you have the wrong timer. If the first 2 digits of your serial number are between 10 and 15 then you have the correct timer. If the first 2 digits are 16 and higher then you would need to get the timer part number WP33002803.

Gerard, Are you sure the dryer heats but the motor won't run ? if that is the case, that would indicate an issue in the dryer motor 279827 not the timer or timer motor WP8299779 . If the dryer won't start , run or heat, your first check should be at the thermal fuse WP3392519 located on the blower housing. When this fuse opens, usually due to an overheating situation, the power to the motor is eliminated, and the motor won't start , run or activate the heater circuit. Yes, you could have an issue in the timer, but that's not the first place to start, based on your information.
