This was a newer GE Monogram side-by-side unit that used an inverter compressor. I removed the inverter and used an ohmmeter to measure the resistance of each of the three windings. They were all very close to one another: about 6.8 ohms per winding. I concluded that the compressor was probably not at fault.

He was only going to come back and install a new emitter. They wanted a lot of money to do the repair. They were going to charge us $257 just for the part (emitter board). We bought both boards for $300 from AppliancePartsPros. We decided to replace both boards, because if one went bad the other might not be far behind.

The refrigerator was given to me and hasn't defrosted since it was new. I found the defrost timer had a burnt spot on the circuit board. After installing a new timer, the refrigerator would trip the circuit breaker in my house when it entered defrost mode. I found that the pink wire running from the control board all the way to the thermostat was shorted somewhere between the two parts, inside the refrigerator. I ran a new "pink" wire and all is good.
