The refrigerator / freezer not cooling. Jeffrey S. • Stanfordville , NY • October 03, 2022
This KitchenAid Refrigerator was put into service in 2007. I thought it died 5 years ago when all it needed was a couple of days to defrost some ice build up in the walls between the freezer and refrigerator sections. At that time we bought a smaller new backup refrigerator thinking we'd also be needing a new main refrigerator, but it was really fine after the thaw out. So we kept it!
Then, the other day, it just stopped cooling. I noticed food starting to get soft in the freezer, but the...

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You
Both lugs on refrigerator water filter cap broke apparently due to age induced brittleness would not pull water filter out of refrigerator William F. • Birmingham , AL • June 01, 2016
Replaced filter cap with new one. The minor challenge was to find a method of pulling the filter out of refrigerator (which is normally done by pulling on the filler cap. The filter was recessed to far into the refrigerator for me to be able attach the new cap. I had to find another tactic to remove the filter. The solution was to look at the replacement filter to notice where two slots were located at the end of the filter. I then used a paint can opener (found at most paint stores) to slip...

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You
It was piddling on the floor every time it defrosted Darlene S. • Stanley , WI • January 12, 2015
The drain pan (Tray-Evaporator Pan) was cracked in 2 places. We had to remove the front panel. Loosen the bracket that holds the water filter. Take off the back panel and disconnect the bracket that holds the selenoid. It was not necessary to unhook the water lines, just the bracket. It was not easy to remove the old pan and get the new one in, but holding the water filter, with the bracket intact, as far to the left side of the refrigerator as possible gave us the room to get the pan in. ...

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You
Ice dispenser was skipping so not dispensing ice Del H. • Midlothian , TX • September 03, 2018
The problem was that the motor coupler & shaft had a tiny bit of rust at their union. With the weight of the ice bin it rusted in the lowest position. This didn't allow the motor coupler to float on the shaft. There is a spring inside the shaft that pushes up on the motor coupler keeping it engaged in the ice bin coupler above. This coupler in turn rotates the auger in the bin to dispense the ice. I removed the motor coupler & shaft, tapped the coupler loose and filed off the rust. This allowed...

This was actually one of the easiest fixes I’ve done. All that was required was to remove 3 screws to remove the broken part. I used a pair of pliers to remove the moisture sensors from the broken part to the new one.

Ice forming in the ice cube bin Bill J. • Scottsdale , AZ • December 13, 2014
I have a Whirlpool Side-by-side Model ED22PWXBW01. A year ago, the ice cubes started freezing together in the rear of the ice bin for no apparent reason. Although the problem started off small, it gradually grew much worse, and finally I could see water dripping out of the ice mold and into the bin during the fill cycle. Re-levelling the refrig didn’t help, nor did adjusting the cube size / fill level.
With guidance from the video, I removed the icemaker from the wall of the freezer. The...

Replaced of water filter then discovered a long slimy clear algae on purging system Michel L. • Rockledge , FL • March 26, 2017
After watching installation videos on each felt I could pull it off and ordered and received replacement water reservoir and water dispenser tube assembly. Reservoir installation went off without a hitch outside of the added step of the need to remove the entire main in waterline assy in order to access the connectors which also were not as represented in video, in that they were not the press-to-release type but standard threaded compression types.
Water Dispenser tube/spout assembly was much...

Ice maker quit and frig was warmer then usual Marc A. • Santa Cruz , CA • November 11, 2018
I noticed Ice maker Quit for the third time in 15 years so I decided to buy another Ice maker, I installed it and NO ice still?? Well I went after the other problem thinking if it does not get cold enough maybe ice maker won’t work. I ordered Defrost Switch, Heater and Evaporator Fan just to be safe. I replaced all three, the fan was noisy, the heater OHM’d ok but I replaced it as did the defrost switch, I put it back together, the Freezer got to 0 degrees and the frig got to 38 degrees so I...

Lower ice bin broken Dennis B. • Wichita Falls , TX • March 30, 2020
Easy to remove the metal parts from the old bin. The only problem was that the screw that holds the adapter has red thread locker and screwdriver rounded off the head of the screw. Drilled the screw and heated the screw to loosen the thread locker and used an ease out to remove the screw.
