Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You The lint catch was broken   Misti P. • Spokane , WA • January 18, 2019

This was actually one of the easiest fixes I’ve done. All that was required was to remove 3 screws to remove the broken part. I used a pair of pliers to remove the moisture sensors from the broken part to the new one. Read more

Ice Mold
Genuine Whirlpool part
By: Whirlpool
Part Number: WPW10190929

The Ice Mold is an OEM part for Whirlpool refrigerators. This component forms the ice cubes in the icemaker, shaping the water into cubes as it freezes. The ice mold is crucial for the efficient production of ice, ensuring that each cube is properly formed and easily released into the ice bucket.

You should replace the ice mold if it shows signs of wear or damage. Causes of a bad ice mold can include mineral buildup from hard water, physical damage to the mold surface, or malfunctioning heating elements that prevent ice from releasing properly.

Symptoms of a bad Ice Mold include:

  • Ice cubes not forming correctly or being irregular in shape
  • Ice cubes sticking to the mold and not dispensing
  • The icemaker not producing ice at all
  • Leaks around the icemaker area

This OEM part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore models.

This part fixes the following symptoms
  • Leaking

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Ice forming in the ice cube bin   Bill J. • Scottsdale , AZ • December 13, 2014

I have a Whirlpool Side-by-side Model ED22PWXBW01. A year ago, the ice cubes started freezing together in the rear of the ice bin for no apparent reason. Although the problem started off small, it gradually grew much worse, and finally I could see water dripping out of the ice mold and into the bin during the fill cycle. Re-levelling the refrig didn’t help, nor did adjusting the cube size / fill level. With guidance from the video, I removed the icemaker from the wall of the freezer. The... Read more

Coupling Washer
Genuine Whirlpool part
By: Whirlpool
Part Number: WP2212370

The Coupling is an OEM replacement part for Whirlpool French door bottom-mount refrigerators equipped with an interior automatic icemaker. As an internal part, this coupling connects the auger motor to the ice mold assembly, allowing the motor to transmit rotational force during the ice harvest cycle.

Causes of a damaged coupling can include regular wear from years of exposure to changing temperatures inside the refrigerator. Mineral deposits accumulating on surfaces over many harvest seasons have the potential to deteriorate plastic material. Physical obstructions lodged in the icemaker mechanism could potentially bend or crack the coupling.

Symptoms of a failing coupling involve:

  • Inability of the auger motor to engage fully and eject frozen cubes
  • Grinding or knocking sounds emitting from the icemaker
  • Restricted or incomplete ice harvest that leaves cubes in molds

This OEM replacement is compatible with some Kenmore Elite French door models.

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Ice dispenser was skipping so not dispensing ice   Del H. • Midlothian , TX • September 03, 2018

The problem was that the motor coupler & shaft had a tiny bit of rust at their union. With the weight of the ice bin it rusted in the lowest position. This didn't allow the motor coupler to float on the shaft. There is a spring inside the shaft that pushes up on the motor coupler keeping it engaged in the ice bin coupler above. This coupler in turn rotates the auger in the bin to dispense the ice. I removed the motor coupler & shaft, tapped the coupler loose and filed off the rust. This allowed... Read more

Refrigerator Water Filter Housing
Genuine Whirlpool part
By: Whirlpool
Part Number: WPW10121140

Encloses the water filter to ensure proper flow and filtration. Replace if cracked, leaking when filter is removed, or causing water hammer. Confirm fit.

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You New filters would cause the water lines to "hammer" and/or no flow; valve internal to the housing was stuck open so water flowed onto the floor when the filter was removed   Michael G. • Mcmurray , PA • August 30, 2021

The video was very helpful, but my KitchenAid model required slightly more steps. Only the two screws in front held the filter housing, same as the video shows, but it has to be removed from the rear. My model did not have the wire brace, only the two front screws held the housing. Shut the water off and pull the electrical plug. Remove the two screws holding the filter housing in the front. Remove the lower panel in the rear at the bottom of the refrigerator. Remove the two screws holding the... Read more

Refrigerator Ice Maker Water Supply Tube

Plastic tube that delivers water from the supply line to the ice maker assembly. Replace if cracked, split, burst, or leaking inside the freezer.

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Ice maker froze up at the water tube into the ice maker and stopped producing ice.   Deborah C. • Huntsville , AL • December 07, 2017

All this occurred after our utility had to cut off our water for 2-3 hours. We almost ordered a new ice maker, but thankfully someone had their repair story posted. Based on that story, we ordered a new ice maker supply line and a new water inlet valve for our Kitchen Aid refrigerator. After turning off the water to the refrigerator we noticed that the water supply line had almost burst right above the ice maker, so we thawed that out with a hair dryer, then replaced that line first. Removed... Read more

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Water in refrigerator dispenser smelled like rotten eggs   Dale L. • Phoenix , AZ • July 29, 2018

Replaced water reservoir that had become contaminated with ??? Also had to replace the water filter, because the water contaminated it also. Cost was about $150, for two filters and the reservoir. The first filter was replaced because I did not know the reservoir was contaminated, and no water was coming out of the dispenser. Since the water in the ice maker did not come through the reservoir, there was no smell or contamination there. The new filter enabled water to come through the dispenser,... Read more

Ice dispenser door won't open or ice won't drop? This refrigerator ice dispenser motor powers the chute door mechanism. Moderate DIY repair, 30-45 minutes.

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Ice door was intermittent for awhile and finally quit opening ice backed up in the chute and plugged it   Keith W. • Las Vegas , NV • February 21, 2016

Reviewed the AppliancePartsPros.com site and decided that the most likely suspect was the ice motor. I ordered one and got it FAST! I removed the water ice tray in the bottom of the Ice/water kiosk which exposed two phillips screws which I removed. The front panel came off by lifting upward and unplugging it. The ice door motor was visible near the top of the opening. I removed the hex head screws with a 1/4" nut driver so the ice door assembly was free. The core control board was hidden... Read more
