Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Kitchenaid dishwasher kudp02frss2 leak at float switch at front right of unit   Richard B. • Mahwah , NJ • December 02, 2016

Removed bottom cover, located leak at float switch, removed and replaced float switch kit. The toughest part of the repair was removing the Float & Retainer Assembly (in the interior of the machine tank) which broke when I pushed it back and pulled it straight up as suggested in the service manual. The Float Switch Kit (attached to, and below the float, below and outside the tank) has a folding plastic cover which fastens with plastic clips. If you open the switch kit before removing the... Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Machine running loud grew worse until it was obvious the motor blew a bearing   Robert S. • Bettendorf , IA • February 21, 2015

We initially noticed the dishwasher running loud and failing to completely clean dishes. Research suggested issues like this were normally caused by either the main circulation motor or the drain motor. Over the next week the noise worsened, and it became obvious that the circulation motor had went (loud whirring noise whenever the spin cycle kicked in). I watched a couple youtube videos on the removal and dissassembly until I felt confident that my wife and I could handle the project. For the... Read more

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Replaced door latch parts.   Michelle S. • Olmsted Twp , OH • September 05, 2017

Our 7 y/o dishwasher wouldn't close and therefore we couldn't get it to run. I called several service places who charged $75-$90 diagnostic plus parts & labor, and they were not able to get here for at least a week. I knew it was going to run at least $200. Kitchenaid wanted > $400 for a 1 YEAR WARRANTY, but it would cover this service call and any more throughout the next year. Seemed a little steep given the unit is already 7 y/o. I watched a couple videos on this site and YouTube and... Read more

Dishwasher washer would not drain after hearing glass-like particles during the drain cycle despite trying to clean the cylinder filter. Originally suspected the drain motor was damaged. After watching a video on how to replace the drain pump, I carefully energized the dishwasher (from water and electricity) then removed the dishwasher to take a look. After removal of drain hose from the pump, discovered that drain hose was connected to water inlet assembly which also needed removal to... Read more

Dishwasher Door Strike
Genuine Whirlpool part
By: Whirlpool
Part Number: WP8574157

Door unlatching during wash cycle? The door strike works with the latch to keep your dishwasher door closed. Moderate DIY repair with video guide.

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Door kept un latching during wash cycle   Rolland W. • Hilton Head , SC • March 04, 2015

Tried bending the strike to get a firmer grip, but no luck. Replaced the door latch and strike. Washer is about ten years old. You can feel the new catch has a more positive engagement. When you replace the strike, be sure not to tilt it downward in front. It will go in the way but it will keep the door from closing. Not sure I needed to replace the strike but didn't want to risk more downtime. Read more

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You The nylon cord transfers tension from the spring to the door; on my dw a cord had broken after 14 years   Burke M. • Wheat Ridge , CO • May 08, 2018

A shout out to A.P.P.: Quality parts always come quickly and are what I ordered. No, they are not always the cheapest nor do they have all parts for everything (who does?) but their website is the easiest to use and cost differences are usually slight. I have found A.P.P. trustworthy and reliable for the ten or so purchases I've made. This repair process requires that the DW be completely free from cabinet sidewalls. For me that meant pulling the DW from its installed undercounter space. I... Read more
