Heating Element
Genuine Whirlpool part
By: Whirlpool
Part Number: WPW10082892

The Dishwasher Heating Element is an OEM replacement part for Whirlpool dishwashers. It safely generates heat to sanitize dishes and raise water temperatures during hot drying cycles. A functioning heating element ensures thorough cleaning and reduces the risk of damage from moisture left behind.

Causes of a bad heating element usually relate to standard wear and deterioration of wiring insulation or coil materials after extended usage cycles. Surface scale can obstruct heat transfer if not periodically removed.

Symptoms of a bad heating element include:

  • Dishes not getting fully dry
  • Moisture remaining in low areas after cycles
  • Inability to select high-temperature settings
  • Cycles that don't reach the required sanitization temps

This OEM Whirlpool part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore dishwashers.

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You The clean light blinking 7 times.   Kevin S. • Rochester , MN • January 14, 2023

After reviewing the other repair stories related to this "7 blinking light" syndrome, I contacted their support staff via Chat. I relayed my symptoms along with model number of dishwasher. She indicated that this would normally mean an issue with either the heating element, the high limit thermostat, or the control board. Since the control board was so expensive and (luckily) out of stock, I ordered only the heating element and the thermostat. After pulling out the dishwasher and removing... Read more

  • Noisy operation due to the spray arm hitting the dishwasher walls
  • Water not reaching all areas inside the dishwasher

This OEM part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and some Kenmore models.

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Wife reported dishwasher not working and left bag of parts for me to examine that she found inside the washer   Ahlberg A. • Colorado Springs , CO • November 28, 2016

Although we had a service contract with Sears I elected to take a quick look to see what was wrong. There were 3 problems: 1 - retainer thumb screw had broken and appeared to have been damaged for some time showing scummy buildup along the line where the threads finally separated from the knob, 2 - after removing the lower spray arm, observed that the pump seal was visibly distended and exposed, and 3 - the 3rd level wash arm spinner disk was in the parts bag and the stainless steel sweat-fit... Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Wheels my top dishwasher rack fell off   Paul M. • Ramona , CA • September 11, 2020

Ordered the parts and followed the instruction videos that Sears provide, Initially tried to order parts from Sears directly but the web-page kept complaining about my shipping address. Their loss- no wonder they're going out of business. Also, should note that the original assembly was plastic but the replacement was metal. Sure sign of a crappy cost-cutting decision. Found calcium deposit running down from under the Air Vent Assembly and wet behind the black stick-on insulation. Easy to trace the leak to the bottom of the door. => Ordered new Air Vent Assembly, gasket and Vent Deflector. Parts arrived. Took 5 minutes to remove upper panel. Causes of a bad latch door can include normal wear and tear from repeated opening and closing of the dishwasher door over time. Components like springs or latches may lose tension.

Symptoms of a bad latch-door include:

  • The door not closing or latching properly
  • Difficulty opening or closing the door

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Door kept un latching during wash cycle   Rolland W. • Hilton Head , SC • March 04, 2015

Tried bending the strike to get a firmer grip, but no luck. Replaced the door latch and strike. Washer is about ten years old. You can feel the new catch has a more positive engagement. When you replace the strike, be sure not to tilt it downward in front. It will go in the way but it will keep the door from closing. Not sure I needed to replace the strike but didn't want to risk more downtime. Read more

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You My dishwasher detergent dispensor door was not opening during wash cycle and the control panel was loose because the plastic mounts for the screws were broken   Reed W. • Eldon , MO • November 11, 2014

I ordered a new detergent dispenser and control assembly, watched a few videos on you tube and dived in. The repairs were pretty simple once I got started and while I was doing this I went the extra step and cleaned out the drain. I would suggest doing this annually. Door Handle Spring
Genuine Whirlpool part
By: Whirlpool
Part Number: WP8268540

The Door Handle Spring is an OEM replacment part for Whirlpool built-in dishwashers. It applies inward tension to assist in opening the dishwasher door after a cycle completes. Proper spring force prevents accidental openings during active washing and rinsing stages.

Symptoms of a failing door handle spring can include:

  • Difficulty opening the dishwasher door at the end of a cycle
  • Potential opening of the door unintentionally during operation
  • Sagging or loose door that does not securely latch in closed position

Causes related to the natural fatigue of the coiled wire over thousands of usage cycles. Loss of elastic properties compromises the spring's ability to counteract the weight and seal force of the heavy dishwasher door panel.

This OEM Whirlpool replacement spring restores smooth, convenient door access at appropriate times. Compatible also with some KitchenAid models.

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Dishes would't clean on the top rack and bottom dishes were wet   Rajasekhar R. • Warrenton , VA • August 02, 2015

I replaced the rear tube that feeds water to the top and middle spinners, and this appears to have fixed the problem. The middle spinner, which is attached to the bottom of the top rack, has a tube that connects to a hole in the middle of the rear tube. This hole has a rubber flap and I noticed that this flap was wide open. Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Machine running loud grew worse until it was obvious the motor blew a bearing   Robert S. • Bettendorf , IA • February 21, 2015

We initially noticed the dishwasher running loud and failing to completely clean dishes. Research suggested issues like this were normally caused by either the main circulation motor or the drain motor. Over the next week the noise worsened, and it became obvious that the circulation motor had went (loud whirring noise whenever the spin cycle kicked in).
