The timer knob simply pulls off the shaft with a solid, steady pull. Cleaned the timer cavity of lint/dust buildup. Aligned the keying flat of the shaft and knob and pushed the new knob on with careful, steady pressure until it was obviously seated. No tools required other than a vacuum. It was a relatively easy fix. Removed the small access panel at the back of the washing machine after unplugging the unit. The pump is right there. Disconnected the two hoses to the pump, catching some water with towels. Removed three retaining screws, then realized I had not disconnected the belt from under the unit. Easy fix, tilted the unit and disconnected the belt. Put in the new pump , connected the hoses, then reconnected the belts. Works like new! Read more

This Maytag dryer was bought in 1985 if memory serves. It has worked hard with few repairs done by yours truly over the years. This is a small fiber washer that fits on the drum support roller shaft inside the dryer. It acts as a spacer and bearing surface to reduce friction and keep the drum roller properly positioned. The heating element had a break in the heater coils, so I replaced it with a new one from Appliance Parts Pros.
